Do you return your shopping cart?

Last night at the grocery store I see a lady leave her shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot. The worst part about it is that there was literally 1 spot between her car and the cart corral. I was telling a guy at work this and he mentioned that he read that people who were successful in life return their carts. I looked for this article and nothing I found seems to be based on any data.

I figured that Chiefsplanet could provide some data.

I always push it to the farthest away portion of the parking lot and turn it on its side.

Did you mean return back to my HOME?

I currently have 14 in the garage, customize them and trick them out and then sell them to the newly homeless.

I live in a dense urban neighborhood, and I'm only two blocks from the grocery store.

In the good old days, I did bring the cart home. I'd then put outside my garage in the alley, and the store had a truck that would drive through all of the alleys and pick up the carts. It was awesome.

The system had been in place long before I moved there, and I was told about it by a bagboy, which gave it legitimacy. However, I was never quite sure if it was a neighborhood service or if so many people walked off with the carts that the store did it out of necessity.

My question was answered several years later when the store remodeled. They put invisible leashes on all of the carts, so now if you reach the edge of the parking lot the wheels all lock up.

I'm used to it now, so I make small purchases more frequently. But it was annoying to initially figure it out, because the store didn't say anything about it. People just ended up with full carts that were locked up, and they were two blocks from home on foot.
