Post-Draft Chiefs Depth Chart

Not gonna include UDFAs or anyone super under the radar for this, but just trying to put together something to give us a look at what we're working with so far. This doesn't include the entire roster. Rookies are in italics.

QB: Mahomes, Henne, McGloin
RB: Hunt, Ware, West, D. Williams, K. Williams
FB: Sherman
WR: Hill, Watkins, Conley, Robinson, Chesson, DAT, Kemp, Dieter, Braverman
TE: Kelce, Harris, Charles, Wright, Amaro
LT: Fisher, Erving
LG: Ehinger, Witzmann
C: Morse, Devey
RG: LDT, McKenzie
RT: Schwartz
--
LE: Bailey, RNR
NT: X. Williams, Nnadi
RE: Jones, Jenkins
LOLB: Houston, KPass, Nicolas
WILB: Hitchens, Eligwe
MILB: Ragland, Terrance Smith, O'Daniel ($ Backer)
ROLB: Ford, Speaks, Zombo
CB: Fuller, Nelson, Amerson, Reaser, Redmond, Tremon Smith, Lampkin
SS: Berry, Sorensen, Murray
FS: Watts, Golden, McQuay, Sterns

K/P/LS are obvious.

I guess my first takeaway was that this roster is quite a bit deeper in some spots than I can recall it being since Reid got here. It also seems thin in a place or two, but nothing horrific. Thoughts? Concerns?

Who do you see replacing Sorensen?
What about O'Daniel?

Judging by the comments in his thread- many think that is why we drafted him?

Sorensen is slow in coverage and not great in run support. Yes, he made the occasional sack or big play- so if we keep him I won't bitch too much. We are tight on the cap and this seems like a place to gain some room.

I think the safety market is still pretty deep.

They might be able to pick up a starter at FS for his cap savings.

We will save 4.5 million against cap by cutting him post June 1, which I think we will. IMO no brainer.

According to Reid and Veach he is a ST and Dime package player. In Dime he will be covering TE.

His 4.87 40 time is identical to Tamba’s and he weighs 8 more pounds.

I’m pretty sure he will lose weight if they are asking him to play OLB.

I’m skeptical myself, but that’s who they’re comparing him to and it matches up.

They are the ones that stated that he would play OLB and slide inside similar to how they used Tamba. Tamba also ran a 4.9 at the combine.

Tamba never weighed CLOSE to 285 lbs.

They might try him at OLB for a bit but I believe he'll end up at DE.

Agreed. The Youtube videos of him shows he has very poor change of direction. He's too stiff to play OLB. If Reach and Reid think he can play a traditional OLB then I don't have much optimism for their player evals.

The Chiefs bio on Tamba shows his weight at 279.

Hali ran a 4.87

From what I hear Speaks should be able to slim down a little

Bend and agility is important, but I think Speaks is more a replacement for Hali/Zombo. It's been years since they picked up a sack. Speaks is an immediate improvement over those guys

Still, Speaks can afford to lose whatever fat is still on him. I think he'll play a lot faster that way

Tamba Hali
6'3" 275 - 4.87 40-yd, 18 bench, 30" vert, 8'10" broad, 4.31 short shuttle, 7.28 3-cone

Breeland Speaks
6'2-7/8" 283 - 4.87 40-yd, 32.5" vert, 9'2" broad, 4.65 short shuttle, 7.63 3-cone.

My opinion is you ask Speaks to cut up and drop about 10 pounds and you have Tamba.

Shuttle and 3-cone are substantially worse.

I guess we’ll see if his explosiveness improves if he cuts weight.
