My Fellow Chiefs Fans:

I felt the need to weigh in on the state of Chiefs Fan Relations in cyberspace and am submitting this essay for your consideration.

Cyberspace has created a unique opportunity for us Chiefs fanatics to maintain community in ways that non-KC-area fans could not before the word wide web. As with other modes of communication, cyberspace is in the public domain and deserves the highest consideration of the obligation of citizenship. This expression of our freedom as with all others is dependent upon the goodwill and mutual respect of the citizens who participate and unfortunately can be abused by the unneighborly and the irresponsible.

Our passion for all things Chiefs arouses deep and heartfelt opinions which we post here for all to read. There are and always will be disagreements about coaching decisions, players, rules of the game, etc… That is all part of being an NFL fan. There is also incumbent upon all of us as Americans a duty to preserve order, respect dissent, tolerate differences and express our manifold freedoms with reverence and brotherly regard.

I myself have been thoroughly abused on Chiefsplanet.com. My views are bombastic, intensely held and highly subjective. They cause people to wonder if I’m a Chiefs fan at all (that is if I do not tote the party line about the current regime). However, none of us deserves the type of pack mentality mob rule that eventually caused me to withdraw from that fan forum altogether.

I am responding this day of 24 May 2002 because it was brought to my attention that I am still discussed or mentioned on that BB regularly even though I have not posted there since December 2001. One of those threads was started by JD Prez and included an invite to post here. For that I am grateful.

Cyberspace, like the streets of our cities, is accessible to the disrespectful and the hateful. What is a Chiefs fan then to do? Let’s pledge to be responsible, respectful and patriotic in our cyber discourse with one another. Let’s not reward the vile and belligerent with attention. Let us remember above all else, that there is a living, breathing human being on the other end of each post. Let us strive to preserve our unity as citizens and brothers regardless of our passionate disagreements about football, which, in the final analysis, is mere entertainment.

Finally, let us remember that we are a nation at war. This is a time to put aside the petty and the self-aggrandizing, and unite for the common cause. As a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, I have the privilege of wearing USA on my chest everyday. That is the one team we are all a part of and we will remain strong and undefeated as long as we commit to stand united, brave and faithful.

I think there is a difference between a debate and getting attacked. I myself have been involved in a few of those debates and feel they are part of what makes this a fun BB. Of course I suppose I should not have responded to your post since it will probably be viewed as an attack!

From the time i have been here i have noticed that EVERYTHING has been open to DEBATE! everyone has different opinions and we all express our views, but i dont recall a person being attacked.....maybe a type of religion but that is different from the person! I have to agree with brad that i am a former Catholic because alot of the " laws" they have i believe to be outlandish! I went to a catholic school my entire life....so im not speaking bad of any believer...but maybe the orginization!!

Simply dont take it personal and defend your opinions...thats what keeps it interesting!

Responding to a post and defending your veiw is different from name calling and some of the things done by a select few on here . Brock , how much do you know about Mississippi , probably nothing . I would think kissing your sister would be considered ok on this board since so many think its ok for a man to kiss another man . I don't take it personal and i will continue to stand for Jesus . As for as i am concerned John Proctor is a fine Christian man and is welcome here anytime.

All I can say is that I would welcome Proctor to post here but like Voyager a broken record is hard to listen too. Discussion is the give and take of ideas and I have no problem that he thinks the sun shines out of Marty's ass but don't keep ONLY seeing the positives of Gunther & Co. and give no credit to DV. I liked somethings about M&G but enough, they are like yesterdays fried chicken. Toss them out, embrace what we have grab a cool one and enjoy your Chiefs!

Mr. Grimm that is the best advice period. Denise seems to understand the concept KCJ did not and as far as I can see from the Park, he still does not get this simple axiom.

P.S. I am not saying that at one time or another each of us is not going to take something personal. But after you cool down, just try to move on and forget it.

You have to be able to take the good with the bad. As far as I am concerned, peoples opinions are theirs to have......I choose to believe what I want, and ignore what I want. KCJohnny has some strong opinions about things.....he is entitled to that. We shoud be honoring that for anyone who posts on this board. Debating right and wrong....while entertaining at times, tends to do more to divide than bring together. The purpose of a BB in my mind is to have discussion, not flaming idiotic remarks that damages one another. Let's get on with some good converation about our Chiefs.......continue with prayer requests....witness for Christ when the opportunity comes up and continue some polictical debates......but let's keep it civil.

I think KCJohnny's approach in posting what he did on PREZ's board was not the best move......but, he is entitled to do it.

If I have flamed anyone, and I probably have, I am offering my apology......I would like to think I love everyone.....but, especially CHIEFS FANS
