And to answer your question(not that it was really a question) I would think I would get the same response a white person might give for someone calling them a white skin. They would probably go "Huh?" because it was a term that was never used before.

If not, you're building a straw man. Black people are called black because that's what they decided upon. They liked it better than negro and colored. I haven't met any natives who told me they prefered to be called 'red'.
