That's a total of about 45 over 3 years...and we move on to a younger, cheaper option once he turns 34.

If he blows out an acl...gets another concussion...tears his throwing shoulder a third time...or he underperformed, the cost goes down.

Can ANYONE tell me why we should sign him to a long term deal at 16-19 million per year, again?
We shouldnt but what other options do we have

Alex Smith benefits from saying if Tony Romo and Jay Cutler can get 100 million, I can too.

it's that simple, and probably why both sides are far apart. When Alex Smith realizes that A) nowhere else will give him 100 million and B) he has a better chance of winning in KC than on the 5 other garbage teams that would take him that aren't locked into a QB contract or a young QB, then the price will come down.

I predict we gets a 5 year deal for 60 million with 32 mill guaranteed.

That's a 12 mill a year deal which is fair.

As I pointed out, then there are other core players that need to be resigned. Unless Alex can take the whole team on his back because of his play, he needs to lessen his demands if they are too steep.

Bridgewater fell to you but Dorsey didn't pull the trigger.

Mistake IMHO. Bridgewater is well worth the risk at #23. I can't say Ford was the wrong pick, but IMHO, Job #1 is nailing down the long term franchise QB. There is no other need until that is done. When I saw Bridgewater fall to you guys, I wondered if Dorsey would take him then kind of just laughed out of confusion when he didn't.

Could prove to be a key mistake. Or not.

Anyone know what the cap is now after all of the rookie signings?

We were at $4.8 Mil prior to the draft.

Maybe about $1 mil left?

With all of those receiving weapons in SF, you're going to need a QB who can actually read more than just half of the field and progress beyond his first read.

Your confusion lies in the reality that you have poorly assessed what the Chief's decision-makers think of Smith.

Frankly, I was surprised when SF passed on Jimmy Garoppolo at the bottom of rd 2.

Could prove to be a big mistake. Or not.

Not much of a fan at all, anymore. Less and less interested every year, it seems. I used to watch every single second, from kickoff to final whistle. Even in obvious blowouts, I watched to the end. Through all of the Herm years, and Cassel years, and even the Crennel year. But trading for yet another backup QB finally did it. Didn't watch a single game last year and won't watch any until the Chiefs get serious at QB. Just not interested in another backup at the most important position in the game.
