Restaurants of yesteryear

What Restaurants did you grow up around? I'm not talking super fancy and yes fast-food counts. What distinctive memories do you associate with them?

Mine?

Taco Via-(the lit up menu of the various taco plates displayed on the wall), WhiteCastle-On a paper plate with fries and Pepsi, Arthur Treachers(off Noland), Tippins(off Noland), Perkins(the free toy well), Country Deli(awesome local deli to Blue Springs heated sandwiches on Sourdough buns), Zarda BBQ and Dairy, FunHouse Pizza(of Course)(Dark. Video- Games,Electonic Riding Bull and 25-cent Taco night) Annes Sante Fe.

Keep in mind I never see these anymore living in Georgia.

It's rough driving through old Sedalia now. Makes me really feel old.

Pretty sure they changed the intersection. The Verizon store is farther back in the lot.

That was one helluva restaurant. My nephew would always take me there when I visited him.

Not exactly a restaurant of yesteryear, yet.

But in keeping with the tenor of the discussion, Iron Barley is moving out of the city into rural JeffCo. I'm sure it will still be awesome, but now it's a bit of a slog to go.

I believe I only experienced the new place because there were definitely a few tables, maybe 6 or 8. It was pretty good even then. No one I know except the friend I ate there with ever remembers it. I was beginning to think I made it up or something.

Remember right across the highway when Truman Corners had one of the few Smorgasbords anyone had ever heard of. So 'exotic' a concept that the restaurant was merely named 'Smorgasbord?' [EDIT: now that I think, it also incorporated 'Svedenhaus' into it's nameplate]

Heh, I remember that place. I don't recall ever eating there though. Only later when it became Harry T's.

Yep. The smorgasbord, remember it but don't remember eating there. I do also remember the Spaghetti Spot right behind it (or somewhere nearby). There was an ice cream place there too.

Grew up a little further south, so Zardas on down 71 was THE ice cream spot for us.

Cherry Walnut in a sugar cone, FTW!!

There used to be a tiny little cafe in Warrensburg called "Corner Cafe." Standard cafe fare, but really, really good. Excellent breakfasts, and their burgers were fantastic. They closed sometime in the early 2000s.

The best thing, though, was their prices were from yesteryear. You could get a double burger, fries, and a drink for less than $4. A full breakfast would run you like $3. Probably why they eventually closed. But damn do I miss that place.
