Everything in bold is complete crap, unless you only read the most irrational posters here, or maybe you just really like hyperbole and strawmen in order to make points on arguments that don't exist. It's not nuance, it's reality... it's rarely black and white, and never as ridiculous as you've described. I have no idea how people can read guys like duncan, HemiEd, Bowser, OtWP, keg, Plow, Brock, Pablo (to name a few haters (holla!)) and come close to any of the conclusions you've made in those two posts, unless you're just here to troll or maybe if English is like your 3rd language. I think the first thousand times my stance as well as those I mentioned was explained is probably enough, but I'm sure it'll get mentioned a few more times, so be on the look out for that. But, to answer your question (which seems to be about the only thing not in bold for some reason), yes, it is a rationally based opinion, so it takes all kinds of things into account.

Again i ask, who else did you want this year and more importantly why, whats the advantage to someone else besides Smith this year or next? Are we better off with someone else this year? Is Reid too stupid to move on if the guy cant execute his plan? Are the obvious holes in this offense at all to blame for Smiths performance? Can a 15 year loser fill every roster spot with capable players in less than a year? That was a very courteous slam, but all i want to know is what better option did you have in mind? |

I don't think "stupidity" has anything to do with the likelihood of the team retaining Smith. They gave up a pair of seconds for him, and they've started the year 9-0. They're not moving on from that. I'd be shocked if he doesn't get an extension this offseason, even if his play doesn't improve an iota in the last 7 games. I'm sure the youth and system change on the offensive line, as well as the injuries at tight end, have played a role in Alex's performance. I also believe that, on that flip side, Alex's performance has had a detrimental effect on the performance of the wide receivers. Something which many of us expected, and are not, unfortunately, surprised to see. I believe they actually have peopled the roster with competitive personnel, across the board. Including on offense. I think the group, as a whole, is underperforming, and I believe that Alex Smith is as responsible for that as anyone else. Which is not, of course, in any way suggesting that he's solely responsible. |

Alex Smith has not been helped much by the guys around him. But Avery looks like a pretty damn good No 2 WR if you add 3 TDs and 150 yards to his stat line (which you would if Smith could throw a deep ball). Bowe's abilities are proven at this point. I have no problem with a comment about how bad the TEs have been, but the same argument doesn't hold up on the WRs for me. They're not elite, but there's enough there to be pretty good.

Bowe is a 1000 yard WR with trash like Huard, Thigpen and Cassel, but he's a POS with Smith? It's comical how all offseason people talked about how talented this team is, what a great addition Avery was going to be, etc - yet now, they are all trash in an effort to exonerate Alex Smith for poor play. |

There's been a lot of decent football discussion in here, too.
I remember about 6k posts ago, 3-4 games into the season, when I was "HOPEFUL" about Andy Reid unlocking what he saw in Alex Smith and getting more out of him. It was a better time.
