The Big Lebowski is great. The first time I watched it was in 1999 when a friend forced me to sit down and bask in its glory. I wasn't impressed. Then I saw it again a few years later and it just clicked. It's now one of my favorite comedies ever, if not THE favorite comedy. I quote it all the time without even realizing it.

But I do recall the numbness of that first viewing. I was already a Coen brothers fan. Loved Blood Simple, ADORED Raising Arizona, thought Miller's Crossing and Fargo were instant classics, even loved Barton Fink to the point of arguing with the group I watched it with [I wasn't alone in loving BF in the group, not THAT brave]. I didn't HATE TBL, just was disappointed. It seemed lazy, disjointed and shambling, beneath the esteem of the Coen nameplate. But on subsequent viewings, that laziness, disjointedness and shambles revealed themselves to be BY DESIGN. It provided a framework for whipsmart dialog. Nearest analogy I can muster is TBL is like a real hot jacuzzi, painful at first, then soooo relaxing and enjoyable once you've given yourself time to acclimate to the environment.

Yeah, The Big Lebowski is a bit of an acquired taste. It gets better with multiple viewings.

Collateral.
No idea how this movie is 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not saying that it's bad, but It's not anywhere near THAT good.

Went to see Rise of the Guardians this weekend.
It was quite good. A fresh take on "holiday" movies. Couldn't really hold my 3 year old's attention (what can?) but my 8 year old loved it.

Yeah, I don't get it. He's not exactly a great actor, but he's much better than he was in that movie.

No i think with a different quality actor for that role the movie would be much better then what it was. Watch it again man, he was awful! "Hi, I'm Vincent"........ |
