Alex Smith to ask for release

http://tracking.si.com/2013/01/28/al...?sct=obnetwork

If no draft picks are involved, does that change your opinion on bringing him in?

Draft pick, Smith, Stanzi(?) as your QB's in camp.

They aren't going to bring in or trade for a guy to play QB, then draft one at 1. At best, we would get a 2nd round QB, at a spot that has been shown to be a QB wasteland.

If Smith comes here, they might draft someone late.

If Smith comes here, he'll be the starter.

About 20% of 2nd round QBs become full-time starters.

Andy Dalton is the exception, not the rule.

And his ceiling is high-end game manager.

I can't believe people would actually WANT that.

I'm going by Reid's history, he's always drafted and developed QBs. I don't expect that to stop even with Smith.

If we draft a guy at 1 overall, he better damn well start.
Why should he start day 1 if hes not ready?

If Alex Smith wants to come to KC to back-up Geno Smith and the Chiefs have to give up nothing to get him and can sign him to a reasonable contract...then fine... go for it... bring Alex Smith to KC.

I doubt any of that will happen which is why I don't want Alex Smith in KC.

These days, when are guys not ready day 1? I'd rather him learn on the job than sit for a year, then have the learning curve next year.

And there is a 6th rounder who's likely the best of all time. It's an abberation. There is also a first rounder starting the SB.

Enough with this "look at this team's 3rd rounder he's good, we can get one there". Yeah we can, but it's all about percentages, which show the best place to get a QB, or atleast the best chance to get a successful QB comes in the first round.

Congrats, you found the exception to the rule.

Do you stick your fingers in light sockets because the first time you did it, it didn't kill you?

With these career stats alone should prove that smith is no better than cassel. I would rather restructure cassel and keep him here and let andy work with him then spend ANYTHING or anymore money on alex smith. If people think you bring in alex smith to be a stop gap or to compete with #1 pick whichever QB it is then why not keep what we have, pay him less since he knows he's either getting cut or taking a huge paycut anyways and let reid work with him.
