Leake was to eat innings after an injury. I don't think they sign him or anyone like him without that injury.

The pitching is average, the defense is subpar, they annihilate bad pitching, and they get shredded by good arms.
It's a .500 team. End of story.

Wasn't Peralta also playing LF for the Tigers before he joined the Cardinals?

Looks like he only has 3 games at LF but quite a lot at 3B.

Carp to 1B works for me.
Don't like him at 2B. Too much footwork. I'd hate to see him get injured on a slide he didn't get out of the way fast enough.

Holliday is going no where. You can't take Diaz out of the lineup. No idea if he can play 2B or not.

The funny thing is that they probably should trade him from a purely baseball perspective.
They aren't going to win anything with him for the duration of that contract. That team is just way WAY too far away. No farm system, a pitching staff in shambles, no lineup depth. It's a bad baseball team and Trout could go a very long way to fix it. They could ask for some crazy packages and probably actually get them. If you're the Dodgers and they ask for Urias, Seager and Pederson, why wouldn't you say yes to that? The Dodgers probably wouldn't include DeLeon as well because their pitching depth is pretty poor, but I'd imagine if that's what it took to close the deal, they'd do it. The Red Sox and you ask for Moncada, Benitendi, Devers and Espinoza. Oh sure, you'd gut the Sox system, but they get Mike !@#$ing Trout; don't they say yes? They could probably insist on JBJ included in the deal and STILL get it done (what use to the Sox have for Bradley when Trout's patrolling CF?). Sadly the Cubs with Schwarber, Contreras, McKinney and Torres wouldn't so much as make a dent in their roster to add probably the best player in baseball. The Angels could probably look to have Almora included and still get it done. They can ask for packages that would seem fairly crazy and teams would bite. Trout's a 1st ballot, no doubt hall of famer. Look at it this way - let's say it's 2004 and a 24 yr old Albert Pujols plays for the Indians (so we're allowed to trade for him in this scenario because....Indians). The Tribe come calling and say they want the best young players in our system at the time. Now prospect guides would've given them shit like Jimmy Journell and Blake Hawksworth but let's say they have the benefit of perfect vision and they actually know our best young players are Molina, Haren, Wainwright and Anthony Reyes. Even in the crazy damn scenario where they peg 3 legitimate star caliber players as star players, don't you still make that deal? You get a 53 WAR over the next 6 years and an average annual stat line of 42 HR, 117 R, 122 RBI, nearly twice as many BBs as Ks and a .334/.435/.636 triple slash (a hilariously good 1.070 OPS as an AVERAGE). For that kind of player, what wouldn't you give up, especially if you had the organizational depth to take the hit.

They won't move him because, well, he's mike trout. But say they were asking. I don't know that the cards have the prospects to keep up with some you've said. It'd start with reyes, dejong if he keeps hitting maybe?I dunno. |
