John Dorsey pre-draft press conference

Tidbits so far:

-180 players exactly on his draft board
-Clark's statement about the tampering appeal will say it all (he sounded pissed off when he said it).

May as well. You know already were getting a 3rd round comp pick for Smith, likely 97-100th overall. If you're going to be as good as you should be, then that 3rd round pick is going to be very close to the comp pick anyway (Hopefully 96th). You're getting a 4th for Daniel. Two 6ths for Branch and Stephenson.

Josh Norman might dick up the scale a little bit.

Remember, there aren't many 3rd round comp picks awarded and there were some pretty massive contracts given to guys like Jenkins, Vernon, Jackson and a handful of others. Osweiler and Osemele got massive deals; even Harrison and Mack got more than Smith. Norman's gonna be yet another guy that leapfrogs Smith.

Wouldn't surprise me to see that Smith pick be a 4th rounder at all.

Based on OTC's comp pick chart, it's a 3rd right now. Could change yes, but that's where you have to negotiate well. Make it a conditional pick, where if it turns out to be a 3rd the team being traded with gets it but if it's a 4th they get your original 4th rounder. Something like that.

Paul Richardson
Cassius Marsh
Kevin Norwood
Garrett Scott
Kiero Small

They turned a 1st round pick into 5 JAGs, 3 of whom weren't even on the team by 2015. Every bit of value they got was from Paul Richardson and if they really think that was a successful pick, they should've just taken him in the 1st and gotten the 5th year option on him. The additional 'equity' they picked up through the trades netted them 4 players, 3 of whom are gone (2 are out of the league) and the fourth simply isn't any good.

Additionally - the Seahawks used up $2.15 million in cap and 4 roster spots for those 5 guys (small didn't even make the team out of camp). Bridgewater was 1 spot and $1.245 million in cap. So apart from moving down in the draft, losing a year of team control, burning 3 extra roster spots and nearly an extra million in cap space, I'd say that trade worked out great for them....
Yep. If your team knows how to evaluate talent, it's all about acquiring more picks and committing less of the cap to a single player. Kelce, Houston, Howard, Charles were picked up in rounds 3 or later. Then guys like Wilson, Ware, West, Abdullah, Parker were way late or undrafted.

I would like to see the Chiefs swap some picks with the Niners so we can target more later round picks this year rather than waiting for comp picks next season

That's a great analogy.

Too bad we hit triple 5 in our game of Cricket in 2013.

When your draft board is dwindling away, the answer isn't to sit on your hands, wait till it gets to nothing and hope someone behind you wants your pick. The answer is to aggressively move up and make damn sure you guy the guy still standing on your draft board.
As always, DJ nails it.

No, I thought think that because of what I see. Not one of these guys has first round talent. Not many have second round production. The best one is suppose to be that slow ass from Ole Miss and he is nothing special.

Not one?

That's ridiculous. Treadwell, Doctson, and Coleman are all first round talents. Thomas and Fuller arguably are too (though I wouldn't agree).

Every night after the draft they will re-examine their board and make necessary adjustments.

Really is a crapshoot.
Define "nobody"?

I thought he was an excellent selection and had Top 5 talent.

The way things ended at UW caused him to slip, not his talent.

It's very interesting that Dorsey sees 12 guys that can be elite quality difference makers in this draft. Also very impressive that he has prospects defined by groups.

If he has a short list of 12 guys and one of them is still there in the early 20s, you'd have to think he would be wanting to move up for him.

If those 12 are all gone and someone wants to move up to 28 and give up a third and we only slide down a few spots into the second and there are still 15 guys Dorsey has in that second grouping...Dorsey would be smart to move down and get an early third rounder because that might net us 2 players from that second grouping.

It's pretty exciting that it's only a few days away.

I have no doubts that Dorsey is gonna make us extremely proud.

Seeing that the NFLN was running a draft marathon, crazy looking back on some of our past drafts. There truly is no way to know if a pick is going to work out or not.

Berry seemed like a sure fire stud, and I remember I was super excited about Baldwin, disappointed about taking Poe. Funny how that works out.
