Alex Smith has hit his ceiling and there is no debate about this, sorry.
It's ****ing pie in the sky optimism to believe he's getting better.

And Flacco is damn near a full year younger (Jan. '85), and one year absolutely makes a difference.

Name me a game manager, checkdown artist who became a gunslinger in his 30s.
I'll wait.

We're spending the #1 overall pick to replace a player who wasn't part of the problem in 2012. All to save cap money and ensure that we don't get burned by these fictional and mythical "back problems." Jesus ****. Adrian Peterson had a torn ACL. Does that mean he has chronic knee problems? Drew Brees threw 27 TDs his 4th year in the league.
Had Alex Smith done anything CLOSE to that, ever, I'd be much more inclined to give him some wiggle room.

Most people considered Flacco nothing more than a "Game Manager" until Cam Cameron was fired and replaced by Jim Caldwell. After that change, their offense exploded and Flacco went wild, eventually winning the Super Bowl. I think he'll continue to ascend in 2013 with Caldwell, which once again proves that coaching and scheme can and do make a difference. |

Coaching and scheme do make a difference.
For Alex Smith, coaching and scheme turned him into a game manager checkdown artist. That is his ceiling to this point in his career. Thinking he'll go beyond that, at this age, is a fool's errand. Again, 75 years.

You left out the part where the Chiefs are able to acquire the QBotF that they identify. Those plenty of wins will make that difficult.

Try 27. Prime at 29, with consistent levels of production thereafter.
