I am extremely fond of Canada as a people, and as a country. Wonderful sense of humor and outlook on life, generally speaking.
Tomorrow, the gloves are coming off for a little bit, though. |

Also, it should be noted:
Whoever happens to go on to the final MUST bring the gold back to North America. The North American brand of hockey is quite different from the European brand. This is about pride. Last thing we need to see is the gold medal going to a bunch of European fancymen. |

Not surprisingly, the Winter Olympics are a far bigger deal. It isn't just because of the hockey; culturally, stuff like bobsled, curling, luge/skeleton, speed skating etc is just way more important/interesting to us than the 100M dash and a hundred and fifty swimming disciplines. Purely from a visual standpoint, the events at the Winter Games are far more compelling. And there's the hockey thing. We don't get best-on-best tournaments in hockey outside of the Olympics, so it's kind of a big deal for us.

Also, as a Leafs fan, it's good to see Kessel finally getting the respect he deserves. He's a tremendous player, one of the world's best scorers and getting better every year. |

Has something to do with the much lower population and significantly less funding for summer sports. The two countries aren't comparable in the slightest in that regard.

As close as you are to the U.S., you wouldn't even last as long as Iraq.

I have an enormous amount of respect for Canada and in particular, their hockey tradition. Most of my favorite NHL players (Doughty/Carter/J. Williams/M. Richards) are Canadians.
That's why I want to win this game tomorrow so badly for the US, because beating Canada would be a huge step for American hockey. And as has been expressed, I'll be rooting for whomever wins this match tomorrow. |
