My fault. I took it as a slam against Canada. Which is pretty much expected around here.

I am extremely fond of Canada as a people, and as a country. Wonderful sense of humor and outlook on life, generally speaking.

Tomorrow, the gloves are coming off for a little bit, though.

Also, it should be noted:

Whoever happens to go on to the final MUST bring the gold back to North America. The North American brand of hockey is quite different from the European brand. This is about pride.

Last thing we need to see is the gold medal going to a bunch of European fancymen.

Yep - if the U.S. loses tomorrow, I'll be pulling for Canada without question.

So there's that to consider too.
As a country, we appreciate the Summer Games for what they are. If some of our people do well, we're really happy for them.

Not surprisingly, the Winter Olympics are a far bigger deal. It isn't just because of the hockey; culturally, stuff like bobsled, curling, luge/skeleton, speed skating etc is just way more important/interesting to us than the 100M dash and a hundred and fifty swimming disciplines.

Purely from a visual standpoint, the events at the Winter Games are far more compelling.

And there's the hockey thing. We don't get best-on-best tournaments in hockey outside of the Olympics, so it's kind of a big deal for us.

But if Team USA can keep playing the way they have been and win tomorrow, well hell it will all be worth it for me.

I don't want to have to stop rooting for Phil Kessel and Joe Pavelski yet.
Should also mention that I'm Canadian here, so I did enjoy today's outcome (not that I hate the US at all, it was tough watching them lose like that, I have ties there too). Tomorrow's game is the one I wait every four years for, though.

Also, as a Leafs fan, it's good to see Kessel finally getting the respect he deserves. He's a tremendous player, one of the world's best scorers and getting better every year.

Has something to do with the much lower population and significantly less funding for summer sports. The two countries aren't comparable in the slightest in that regard.

To me, it isn't. I love the Summer Olympics, it's a much grander affair than the Winter and involves much more of the world's best athletes. But hockey is the great difference maker in Canada. It's everything in that culture. If Canada wins these 2 golds in hockey, the rest of it all doesn't matter much.

Sounds like someone's still upset about Ben Johnson

I have an enormous amount of respect for Canada and in particular, their hockey tradition. Most of my favorite NHL players (Doughty/Carter/J. Williams/M. Richards) are Canadians.

That's why I want to win this game tomorrow so badly for the US, because beating Canada would be a huge step for American hockey.

And as has been expressed, I'll be rooting for whomever wins this match tomorrow.
