He does, but he's not terribly dynamic so you have to run plays for him to get him looks. That kind of fit doesn't tend to work real well in the Triangle.

He doesn't play good defense, he plays frenetic defense which makes it look decent. He gets broken down quite a bit. Unless he's shooting 40% from behind the arc, I can find absolutely no use for him (apart from shooting techincal free throws or coming in with a minute left to take foul shots).

It works great when teams try to go to the zone D.

actually, he can play pretty good defense. He plays to hard at times and makes mental mistakes, but when he's out there, i am in no way shape or form concerned about who he is gaurding. He will do an adequate job. His D is much better then, Farmar, Fisher or Browns. Hell, better then Luke's as well.

He's not great but he's pretty good.

ABC's Jeff Van Gundy: Miami Heat will break Chicago Bulls' win record

The Heat not only will be great, but historically great. So predicts the co-lead NBA analyst for ABC/ESPN.

``They will break the single-season win record [of 72],'' Jeff Van Gundy said. ``And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers' 33-game [winning] streak [in 1971-72], as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year.

``They have put together a much better roster than anybody could ever have expected,'' Van Gundy added. ``There is now no good way to defend them. They are unguardable. They are indefensible. They are just too good and have added so much shooting and are so versatile that they will score at will.

``And with Erik Spoelstra coaching, they will be in the top three defensive teams in the league, as well. The other 29 teams better hope the lockout gets moved up a year.''

Michael Jordan's Bulls set the regular-season victory mark at 72-10 in 1995-96.

``I'm not trying to be Mercury Morris and root against anybody, but I don't think it will happen again,'' said TNT's Steve Kerr, who played on that Chicago team. ``There are too many variables, too many meaningless games, too many bad shooting nights, too much playoff preparation.

``If anybody has a shot to do it, Miami does. If everything comes together perfectly, maybe they get to 70.''

Schedule puts Miami Heat in national spotlight

With 29 games to be shown on national TV, audiences around the country will get a good chance to see the Miami Heat's Big Three.

BY ISRAEL GUTIERREZ
igutierrez@MiamiHerald.com

With the highlighted portion of the Heat's schedule already known, the NBA released the remainder of the league's games Tuesday.

It turns out the Heat's schedule has plenty more highlights to it.

As expected, the Heat has been given the maximum available nationally televised games, with 29 currently scheduled for TNT, ESPN, ABC or NBA TV, and likely five more being chosen by votes for NBA TV's Tuesday ``fan night.''

Last week it was announced the Heat would open the season in Boston, debut on its home floor against the Magic and play on Christmas Day in Los Angeles against the Lakers.

On Tuesday, it was learned the Heat will play its second game against the Lakers on March 10 at AmericanAirlines Arena, part of a difficult six-game homestand that also includes the Bulls, Trail Blazers, Grizzlies, Spurs and Thunder, which features last year's scoring champion Kevin Durant and up-and-coming point guard Russell Westbrook.

The Heat opens the season with four of six on the road, including back-to-back games to open the season in Boston and Philadelphia. But both home games in that stretch are intriguing, with Dwight Howard and the Magic opening the home schedule and Michael Beasley and the Timberwolves playing here on Nov. 2.

It's the only time Minnesota comes to Miami, as the Heat faces all Western Conference teams twice. Miami plays all but four Eastern Conference teams four times each, the lone exceptions being the Bulls, Sixers, Nets and Pacers.

The first extended stretch of home games for the Heat starts Nov. 6 with a six-game homestand, and that includes games against the Jazz, Celtics, Suns and the Toronto Raptors.

Chris Bosh's first return visit to Toronto doesn't come until Feb. 16, followed by a season finale in Toronto. LeBron James' return visits to Cleveland are Dec. 2, the second night of a back-to-back, and March 29 to kick off a four-game trip.

In a game that should be more entertaining than usual given their failed attempt at signing any of the Heat's Big 3, Miami plays its first of two games in New York on Dec. 17, with the Knicks and Amare Stoudemire visiting AmericanAirlines on Dec. 28 and Feb. 27.

With the Heat's Christmas schedule forcing it to make a brief two-game West Coast trip to Phoenix and Los Angeles, Miami has a rare three trips out West, the first one including games at Utah, Sacramento and Golden State in early December, and a third trip in January that starts in Milwaukee and follows with games at the Blazers, Clippers and Nuggets.

That five-game trip is the longest of the season for Miami, with three other four-game trips also included in the schedule.

The Heat has 19 sets of back-to-back games on the schedule, up just one from last year's. The friendliest home schedules come in November and March, and the Heat finishes the season with six of nine on the road.

The Heat's exhibition season opens Oct. 5 at home against Detroit, but the rest of that schedule has yet to be released. Training camp opens Sept. 28.

Gators super freshmen form another Big Three

GAINESVILLE – The Miami Heat aren't the only ones with a Big Three in Florida.

The Gators have a big, beefier trio.

"Ronald Powell is Chris Bosh, Sharrif [Floyd] is Dwyane Wade and I'm LeBron [James]," Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley said Tuesday at Florida's annual media day.

Powell, Floyd and Easley – all 840 pounds of them – comprise arguably the best collection of defensive line talent a Southeastern Conference recruiting class has ever seen.

Click here to get breaking sports news text alerts

The three were ranked No. 1, No. 4 and No. 8, respectively, in Rivals.com's top 100 recruit rankings of 2010.

Though Powell's from California, Floyd's from Philadelphia and Easley's from New York, the trio decided to join forces in Florida because they wanted to play together and Florida made the most convincing pitch.

The Gators return six linemen with starting experience, but the cornerstones of the 2010 class look poised to push for playing time.

"It's pretty exciting when you think about [the future]," said Floyd, who weighs 300 pounds.

"We can do a lot of great things here. We can get a lot of stuff rolling, have the whole SEC scared of us. We can have it all. But we have to keep it together."

Don't be upset. Young gay people like yourself eventually become old gay people. It's the circle of life.

Heat’s Udonis Haslem arrested on marijuana charge

By Ira Winderman and Akilah Johnson / Sun Sentinel
Monday, August 16, 2010 - Added 4 hours ago

Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem was arrested on a charge of marijuana possession Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Lt. Mark Wysocky of the Highway Patrol said in a statement that Haslem, 30, was arrested after a traffic stop in Miami-Dade County along the Gratigny Parkway that also resulted in the former University of Florida and Miami High standout being cited for unlawful speed and illegal window tint.

According to the FHP statement, "Mr. Haslem was traveling eastbound on the Gratigny between 42 and 57 Avenue at approximately 3:05 p.m. During the traffic stop the trooper smelled an odor of marijuana from within the vehicle."

Antwain Fleming, a passenger in the 2008 Mercedes, also was charged with possession of marijuana. Fleming is not associated with the Heat.

Following a search of the vehicle, Haslem and Fleming were transported to the Miami-Dade County Jail.

Messages left with Haslem and Heat officials were not immediately returned. Haslem’s agent, Chicago-based Henry Thomas, said by e-mail that he still was collecting information on the incident.

The TMZ.com entertainment website reported that the vehicle was searched three times, including once by canines, with the third search revealing "less than 20 grams of marijuana."

According to the NBA’s "Marijuana Program," a player who commits an initial violation must enter the league’s counseling program.

A second violation mandates a $25,000 fine and possibly in-patient or aftercare treatment. Any violation after that triggers a five-game suspension.

The league does not release details of where a player stands in its program, or if he already is in the program. Being cited, by itself, does not require immediate entry to the program.

The NBA also reserves the right to impose suspensions for such incidents, beyond the sanctions mandated by its substance-abuse policies.

The Heat entered last season with since-traded forward Michael Beasley coming off time in a Houston in-patient facility as part of his treatment in the league’s substance-abuse program.

Third-year point guard Mario Chalmers was cited in 2008 for his involvement in an incident at the league’s rookie symposium where the scent of marijuana was detected.

Haslem, a Southwest Ranches resident, has not previously been linked to marijuana or other substance-abuse issues during his seven seasons with the Miami Heat.

Haslem signed a new, five-year contract with the Heat last month, shortly before mourning the death of his mother due to cancer.

More on the Haslem arrest/citation:

Quote:
"All the marijuana in the car, according to the police report, belonged to the passenger. The passenger admitted it and Udonis Haslem has done nothing wrong. He did not know it was there. He's being targeted because he's a high-profile NBA player," Haslem's attorney Eric Schwartzreich said late Sunday.

According to the police report, authorities found the marijuana in a suitcase documented to belong to the passenger, Schwartzreich said.

Following a search of the vehicle, Haslem and Fleming were transported to the Miami Dade County Jail.
