Well, yeah. Obviously you're going to try and sign everyone to the most team friendly contract possible, unless you're John Dorsey (?).

But if he balls out on this schedule, he's going to be given $18-20. Possibly even more (cringe).

Andrew Brandt on the Ross Tucker podcast talking Alex Smith for the first 10 minutes or so. Mostly stuff being said in this thread, but relevant. AB thinks Condon is probably around 18 or so, Chiefs might be coming in at less than that right now.

If you do that, you run the risk of overpaying for an unsure thing.

If he does well on this schedule, he'll be about as sure a thing as we could get and having to fork over an extra $3-4 per year won't be as bad.

I really think Alex will get a deal that gives him some security, a respectable number but doesn't break the bank. Sadly, I think that people will use that number to validate their opinion of his value.

No point in them putting out false information like that. Might be Condon trying to sell as high as possible.

Other contract snag could simply be lack of room to really work on both Houston and Smith.
