HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)
EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...
This is awesome... Huge, Huge News Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM HBO has given the production order. They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES. It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass. It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series. More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already. Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn. Last edited by keg in kc; 04-25-2011 at 03:58 PM.. |

I started reading Feast Of Crows. Finally!
So far, I'm really digging it. It's nice to be back in Westeros. |

I see GC's point, to a degree.
I've found myself wondering if this will appeal to people who haven't read the book throughout several episodes. As someone who has read it, I think it's masterfully done. That doesn't always translate into appealing to mass audiences though. IMO it may suffer the most from being restricted to a low number of episodes per season. Not sure you can capture the magic of the book in 1 season, and not sure you can hold the general public's interest if you drag the first book beyond a single season.

The ratings also speak volumes to support what you're saying.

I guess I missed those hints, unless they come in a Feast of Crows.
First wtf moment for me. This story didn't need fabricated intrigue.

No, it didn't. Absolutely unnecessary.
That's the one thing about HBO that gets on my nerves - they'll work a gay angle into every goddamn thing they can if they can get away with it. I guess we're lucky they didn't have the Easy Company guys humping each other in Band of Brothers. |

This is the first episode that made me pissed off. In the books Renly is a charismatic leader, and Ser Loras is a great Knight. So what that the books hint at their sexuality. But now Renly is an effeminate pussy, and Ser Loras looks like he couldn't lift a sword with two hands.
WTF!? THEY HAVE RUINED THESE TWO CHARACTERS FOR ME FOR THE DURATION OF THIS SERIES Last edited by ChiefsFanatic; 05-15-2011 at 08:39 PM.. Reason: I am getting more pissed off as I think about it. |

I was pissed at first, but then thought of some of the later stuff....Rainbow guard, Renly single at that age and tied, same with Loras, and there is a lot of the talk when Joffry is arranged with whats her name, Loras' sister.
I am guessing that it was all hinted at, and GRRM was good with make it very very apparrant. |

I haven't watched this episode yet, but Sir Loras, the Knight of Freaking Flowers, is gay? Duh. That was pretty obvious to me in the books early on.
