****Official 2014 STL Cardinals thread ****

2011 WS Championship
2012 one win from another WS
2013 two wins from another WS title
2014?
  • This is a franchise that has made the postseason 10 times in the last 14 seasons.
  • Reached three World Series in the last decade, and won as many championships (two) the past eight seasons as it did from 1965 to 2005.
  • Our new Manager has more post season experience than any other manager in baseball, except the Giants manager.
  • Three million attendance? Take it to the bank.
  • 60 post season wins since 2004. 20+ wins more than any other team.
  • Only one of the last 14 seasons has been a losing one.

Just like the TLR bullshit where Schumaker and Miles would get an infinite amount of rope but if Rasmus made a single mistake he was the antichrist.

The manager doesn't need to explain every move he makes or why. There may be clubhouse issues, the player not doing what he was told to do, insubordination, front office financial reasons etc. etc. But.....we deserve an answer for the obvious hypocritical actions. Why are players being treated differently?

Why the **** does Jay keep getting AB's when we have other options? It's the "manager's guy"? The other players love him, he's a good clubhouse guy? We deserve an answer.

As of today, I agree. Unless the offense picks up we will be lucky to win 85 games. I just don't see that happening. Carpenter, Peralta, Holliday, Craig will hit better than that have up to this point. There is a historical track record. They will hit more. Now that RISP% is never coming back, but he doesn't have to be .333% for us to win.

I'm on board with OT this year. This is not a lost year. If the offense gets going we have a shot at the WS. We need to send a signal to the team and the fans that we care about winning in 2014, not how we are going to replace of pay Oscar in 2020. He can make a difference. Today is a prime example. How do you view our chances with OT up there in the 9th instead of Jay?

Descalso ain't going anywhere. Maness was never anything to start with, send him down, release him.

Part of me feels sympathetic for Mozeliak, because I'm sure that Matheny's decisions just ****ing baffle him, and he can't step on his toes too much because of the public perception regarding the team's achievements his first two years. However, he was the one who hired the dumb mother****er.

Matheny is the bastard love child of Dusty Baker and TLR with none of the benefits of either.

Descalso is a AAA baseball player. He's proven it over the last year plus. Maness is a AA pitcher. Jon Jay is a starting OF'er on a 95 loss team, not a WS contender.

I hate cronyism. The turds need to be flushed. In fact, Kozma makes more sense as a roster option than Descalso at this point.

Garcia and Motte update. Predictable.

Garcia allowed two runs on three hits and a home run in his two innings. He struck out two and walked one. Then he left the game after taking a pitch on the elbow.

Jason Motte started his rehab assignment in the same Class AA game. He struck out the side on 13 pitches in his one inning of work.

Looks like they're centering the ball off of this scrub at least.

I have been a bit preoccupied lately, but looking at the offense the last 10 games or so (not just runs scored) the offense is actually starting to get going.

I think it's time for Wong and OTav to come up, Jay to go away. I'm fine with keeping Grichuk, theres pop in that bat, we need that. Holliday, Bourjos, Craig, Grichuk and Taveras need to be the outfielders.

An outfield of Grichuk/Taveras/Piscotty is actually a little appetizing for the future though.

Wish Grichuk made more contact, the 3B he hit in the 2nd was SCORCHED!

I'm a little worried that bad Lance Lynn will show up.

They seem to have gotten into this whole "take good AB's" mentality, which isn't a bad mentality to have, but you've gotta go up there ready to hit. Walking isn't ever a bad thing, but opposing pitchers seem to be taking advantage of our thinking and just pounding hte strike zone, and we don't seem to be overly excited to go up there and hit the baseball.

Thats what you need out of Adams (safe or not). Drive the baseball. Don't necessarily need home runs, but extra base hits.

Obviously Jay needs to go, but if OTav comes up and hits, and Grichuk/Bourjos become a formidable CF rotation, with the way Adams is hitting, does Craig become expendable?
