Matt Painter has rejected a contract offer from Missouri and decided to remain at Purdue thanks to a new and extended contract that has been agreed on in principle, a source told CBSSports.com on Wednesday.
An official announcement is expected soon. Painter's decision to remain at his alma mater ends a wild few days on the coaching carousel during which Purdue and Missouri both made very public pleas -- Purdue to try to keep him, Missouri to try to take him -- for the man who has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year in three of the past four seasons. Despite those honors -- and five straight NCAA tournament appearances -- Purdue had been paying Painter only $1.3 million annually. That number ranks eighth in the Big Ten and is among the reasons Missouri believed he could be lured from the place where he was tabbed as Gene Keady's replacement before Keady retired in 2005. Details of Painter's new deal are unclear, but he's expected to receive a significant raise. His staff will also receive notable pay increases and be afforded a budget to operate like a true high-major program, something that was never the case in Painter's first six seasons with the Boilermakers. Missouri's search for a new coach will now move on to secondary candidates. Mike Anderson left Missouri for Arkansas last week. Link: http://gary-parrish.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/ |

Sources: Mike Anderson to get new deal ESPN.com news services For the second straight year, Missouri basketball coach Mike Anderson will eschew outside offers in favor of a contract extension and a raise from the Tigers, multiple school sources told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Monday. The sources confirmed a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report that the school was on the verge of finalizing a new deal with Anderson that will add two years to his current contract. Also, Anderson will receive a bump in salary to nearly $2 million, up from his current pay grade of roughly $1.5 million, the sources confirmed. The sources said the deal is imminent and confirmed the Post-Dispatch report that the talks had been ongoing for some time. The Post-Dispatch reported Monday that the deal had to be formally approved by university officials. Anderson was rumored to be a candidate for the opening at Arkansas, where he was an assistant for 17 years. Arkansas fired coach John Pelphrey on March 13. Anderson received a new seven-year deal last April after he interviewed for the Oregon coaching job. |

All the big boys are jumping on the staying at Purdue, where as the coming here never picked up much traction outside Bernie. Doesn't look good.

Sweet! Continued 20-11, 19-12 seasons with 8-11 seeds in the tourney when they are able to make it. What a kick in the balls. Maybe it was a cash grab all along? It certainly appears to be now.
