The two most encouraging games for me where the San Diego and the last Denver loss. That's why I don't give a shit what his record is because they won some games in spite of him and the lost a few that other cost us where he played well.

I have to say, I was very happy with his performance in 2011 and 2012, given what had been happening in prior nine seasons, and since he was drafted in 2005. The alternative is that Dorsey and Reid are geniuses, because there simply wasn't much evidence that he could lead the Chiefs deep into the playoffs (and really, we don't need to go over all of that again... no, really).

Either way, there's still a lot to be determined as far as winning in the playoffs, their plan for Smith and developing a QB, etc; which might not answer that question for at least another year or two.

Yep, those are the types of games you have to win in the playoffs, despite all the stupidity that went on here for weeks about the apparent impossibility of playing in those types of games, because of the awesome defense and the "you can win in more than one way" and bullshit (it's bullshit because of who they were playing at the time, not necessarily because the statement is untrue).

The funniest part is that people around here were crying that the sky was falling after those games, and after weeks of skepticism, I was actually pretty encouraged.

Yep, me to. Those games didn't jive with the whole "He just wins" narrative so most people didn't want to address that he played his best games there.

I've backed off on my Alex Smith bashing.

Now, it's the defense that's been drawing my ire. We need more pressure and better coverage- it's as simple as that. And honestly, I'm hesitant to put all the blame on bad FS play.

When we're getting beat down the sidelines on these go routes, you have to put the blame on the CBs. Cooper's been getting beat like a drum on those since Buffalo. With the amount of single-deep safety looks that we run, can you realistically expect Lewis or Demps to get to either sideline in support every time?

Including his best throw of the day on the wheel route when the game was up in the air as Oakland had cut the score and charged back to within 4 at 31-35. Faced with a crucial 3rd and 1 and really needing to reestablish our offense as well as kill the Raiders momentum, he makes a gorgeous clutch throw not only to secure the 1st down, but score a TD to get the lead back to 2 scores and take the wind out of the Raiders sails.

I'd say that's stepping up and became the critical play in crushing any hopes they had for a comeback as we watched the wheels come off for Oakland after that.

If you want to nitpick and try to devalue his play as pedestrian, feel free, but he came through at the most critical juncture of the game and reestablished our winning that game in dominating fashion instead of it possibly ending in tragic embarrassment once the defense wasn't able to stop them from rushing and passing at will to start the 2nd half!

Yep. Some people don't get you can play well and lose and also play shitty and win. However on a home team board pointing out any flaws in a win is known as "hating"

Pretty much my sentiments exactly. The Denver games were a bummer, but the good thing is that they are regular season games and that we now for sure have a playoff game to look forward to. I really am putting a lot into this upcoming Indy game as kind of litmus test to determine just how functional this team can be against a quality opponent. I honestly feel that if our Defense can step it back up and our offense plays to even 75% of what they did against the Raiders, Indy, SD, and whoever our first opponent in the playoffs is should be cake.

I am feeling very optimistic right now. I think this is the year that we at least win one playoff game, and any damage to other teams beyond that in playoffs would just be awesome.
