We have decided to take the job. It's a $50K a year raise with all kinds of beenfits from free Iphone, laptops, 401K matching, profit sharing, 3 weeks vacation from day one, All federal holidays paid days off. but its also who the job is with that really motivating me.

The great thing about moving somewhere is, if you don't like it, you can move away again. Go for it. Better to have moved and hated it, then never to have moved at all. (Or something like that.) Drawbacks to FL: - monotonous hot weather (if you don't like it) - giant insects - flat terrain - overall homogeneity of appearance (the cities, not the people, LOL) - expensive to get anywhere else (i.e. other big cities in the U.S.) - time-consuming to get anywhere else - environment could be worse on your car (hailstorms) - hurricanes - crazy drivers, old drivers, and crazy old drivers (worse on the East Coast) Benefits to FL: - monotonous hot weather (if you like it)... no snow or freezing cold - good state for outdoors activities (fishing, sunning, biking/walking/running) - some good theme parks (Busch in Tampa, everything in Orlando) - close to the ocean (if you like the ocean) - environment is better on your car (no rust, no snow tires) - no tornadoes - chicks in skimpy clothes 24/7 (importance CANNOT be understated, LOL) - no state income tax, IIRC |

http://www.centcom.mil/ To start with, I figured some where a short commute to the base. When the family follows me down some nice house, maybe with such a depressed housing market, somewhere with an ocean view?

Congrats BRC!
What kind of work you going to be doing (in the generalist of terms) telcom, programming, intel? Good luck finding someone to watch the Chiefs games with down there. |

I'm not allowed to say what I will be doing down there. I've been told that if someone asked what I do for the military I just tell them "computer" and or "I.T." tasks. but, I can tell you than since my Sprint days back in the early 2000's, I've been considered an expert in Active Directory.

Way back in the Neolithic Era when I lived there ('95 and '96), I used to go to a sportsbar called Beef O'Brady's. 15 years later, I'm sure there are plenty of sportsbars, both "generally-oriented chain" and "team-oriented individually-owned", that should allow you to find a good one. Given the state of the Interwebz today, you and Dackman can probably generate enough Chiefs fans to fill the same bar weekly and get them to make it a Chiefs bar and keep the biggest screen in the place turned to the games.

Maybe something needs to get organized because there are a few CP members in the Tampa area, but I've tried many sports bars over the last few years and I'm usually the only Chiefs fan in each of them.
