I just had a great $10.99 bottle of wine. They sell it at Whole Foods locally (not sure if yours carrys it.) It is a varietal. It is made by The Magnificent Wine Company in Walla Walla, WA. It is called House Wine. Says House Wine very big on the label. The SF Chronicle has a wine section every Wed and often picks value wine's. They recently aggregated the '05 picks in a year end section. This was my favorite from all that I have tried from that. |

This is really a fantastic tasting Shiraz. I have taken to the Craneford brand overall.
Tasting notes - Characters of spice and ripe berry fruit, primarily raspberry and mulberry. The palate has firm, grippy tannins that are balanced by the rich concentration of fruit flavours. Basket pressed, this wine has a smooth, well rounded, velvety finish with an extended finish. Oh, and here is a massive picture of the bottle. |

As far as "drinking" wines, it depends on what mood I'm in and if I'm eating it with something or not. Spain and Chile are really producing some quality big reds for around $10-15 per. Root 1 Cab from Chile (around $12) I consider a phenomenal value. Ol' Red by Cosentino is a nice red blend I recently tried ($13). I've also liked Cline's old vine zin. Di Majo Norante's Ramitello (red blend, around $18) is great with tomato based dishes. If you like big reds, Petit Sirah I've had in heavy rotation lately. Reasonably priced ones would be Concannon (around $13) and Guenoc's Lake County (around $17). Guenoc makes a multi-vineyard variety of this as well, but in my opinion, the Lake County is worth the extra $4 (great balance, inky color, velvety mouthfeel...great with lamb, as one of my friends put it "like drinking blueberry-vanilla-butter").

The wife and I had this suggested to us at Ruth's Chris over the summer.
It's fantastic. Easily my favorite wine. http://sokolblosser.com/mercantool/m...ow&product=183 |
