****The official SuperBowl TV COMMERCIAL Thread****

If anyone cares....

As the Planet's Unofficial repreesentative of madison avenue (and co-creator of "the Best SuperBowl Commercial of 2004") I figured in classic "GoChiefs" self-promoting style, I'd start this thread. (hey, if the game sucks, the commercials will be all people talk about)

So, Advertizers are lined up, wringing their hands to see what their 2.6 Million per :30 seconds will get them.

Anheiser Busch has bought 5 minutes of time total (yeah, about 25 million bucks total, but with volume discount, probably more like 20 million) Look for some potty humor, some animals doing human-ish things and the requisite clydesdale spot.

Going toe-to-toe with the Bud family is the Pepsi/Doritos/Pizza hut/Taco Bell clan (all owned by the same mega-corp.) You can expect a Pizza hut ad with Jessica Simpson, New Pepsi hype, and several Doritos ads.

Also, look for the usual SuperBowl commercial appearances by the big-tits Go-Daddy dot com chick, Coke Polar Bears, AOL, United Way, etc.

A new twist on a lot of ads this year are the "YouTube" trend: Consumer made ads. i.e. the NFL Network "Best SuperBowl commercial ever," One fromDoritos, and even a new "Alka-Seltzer jingle created by some "regular person".

Also, look out for the 60-second "Robot gets Fired" ad from GM. I work with the folks who created that one, so it will be interesting to see how it plays.

You can even watch a lot of the spots before the game on this link:

http://adage.com/superbowlspots07/ca...r%20Bowl%20XLI

and during or afterwards here:

THat is why it is now common for Presidential candidates to go on shows like Oprah and Letterman now.

Or even youtube now. This cycle, is going to be the first youtube campaign.

FOCK!

I was at a huge superbowl party, like 30 screaming kids runnig around, including two of my own. So I had a lot going on, didn't see too much of the game or commercials. I thought the one the NFL chose (hard to say goodbye) was a good one, they added some good stuff to it.

The Taco Bell lion one: They should have had the Chihuahua show up as a cameo ond tell them both how to roll their "rrrr"s. They cut to food, then come back and the lions are looking at the chihuahua like they're gonna eat him. Better than Ricardo Montalban.
My wife said there was a Doritos one where the guy gives the ugly girl a Doritos "money shot" all over her face....WTF?

Wow... your wife has quiet the vivid imagination.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, the clerk is looking at the doritoes flavors and making sexual inuendos. (buffalo ranch! giddy-up, rawr!) They end up ducking behind the counter. At the end the woman pops her head up and asks for cleanup on aisle 4 over the intercom.

Sometime late 2nd quarter. (I only know because that's when I was watching the game on my lunch break)

You're right. I just watched it online and the chick just has messed up hair and is popping up from behind the register. I though she said she had bits of Doritos all over her.

I actually thought the suicidal GM robot bit was pretty clever. The Dave and Oprah bit was pretty funny, too. Honestly, I didn't pay all that much attention to most of the others, and for the most part, none of them are exactly standing out in my mind.

Of course, that nasty Snickers commercial stands out as the worst I noticed, and it managed to be even more queer than the man-love guitar commercial from last year. Apparently Snickers is trying to oust San Francisco as the one thing most clearly associated with being gay.

But at least there was no Mellencrap bellowing out THIS IS OUR COUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNTRY. That's a step in the right direction.

Hey, does anyone think that with all the layoffs GM had this year, that showing a robot (who took human jobs) and the nightmare of losing a job is in poor tast, or insulting to auto workers?

Yeah, I guess that could rub people the wrong way. I caught a bit on the local news after the game where they asked people their opinions about the commercials, and one guy bitched about that commercial as being offensive because a friend of his comitted suicide by jumping off a bridge (that guy should probably never go see Les Miserables, either).

Oh well. I liked it.

It's supposed to be simple... GM takes quality seriously now... don't put more into then that.

The dudes who came up with the crazy animation ideas for "Inside the Coke Machine" and "Coke Video Game Guy" had to be doing multiple lines of coke!

Recap
*Beard combover was great, but then I'm a huge fan of Gaffigan and Michael Ian Black, so I was predisposed to liking it.
*I really liked the Garmin ad. Robots + fighting = I want that product.
*The beer commercials were same old, same old. There was one exception, though:

*Robert Goulet was absolutely hilarious.
*I liked the Coke GTA commercial. I would buy that game.
*The Federline commercial was pretty great. Nice to see he's aware of how lame he is.
*My favorite might have been a CBS promo, with Indy's David Letterman and Chicago's Oprah Winfrey sharing the same couch.
*CareerBuilder was okay, but definitely not as good as their ads last year with the chimps.
*Mencia sucks
*The only ad that might have been worse than the Mencia one was that godawful Sheryl Crow REVLON ad.
