ya old geezer

I can't speak for anyone else, but I wouldn't want to be young in today's society.

Loved growing up in the 70's...

Stevieray

And what was so good about growing up in the '70's? Besides some classic rock tunes I don't see that it has a leg-up on the 90's, beings that the 90's also has its good music now which when I'm your age will be considered classic. Slipknot from right here in Iowa, Nelly, Chris Ledoux, all sorts of great artists from all different genres which I love.....a little iffy on the rap, but every one and a while there is a good tune. So, what advantages did ya'll have then?

Only JOhn would have such an answer. And what is scary is that he is probably being honest.

I turn 37 in just a couple of weeks.

oh the 70's

Bellbottom cordoroys. Sex without fear. Earth shoes. No political correctness. No minivans! The list is huge. The music? We didn't need videos to rock, just KWKI and KY102. Oh and by the way, concert tickets for 10 bands for an all day show were a costly 15 bucks....

And my personal favorite, your friends didn't bring guns to school.

My standard answer to this question is, older than I should be and as young as I want to be. Age is only a number and you are only as old as you feel you are.

I turned 56 last month. Unlike some of you, I don't feel much over 40. I think one reason I still feel young is that I gave up smoking.

big block engines-
-May not be factory, but I'm a small town boy and gives me a hobby not having them around, I get to do it myself, also makes good conversation piece, and when I take out the older bro's 1972 Chevelle Malibu convertible, the ladies keep on coming..

motors measured in cubic inches and not litres-
-Same deal, cubic inches is what I'm used to, don't buy new car, hate em.

No STD's that could kill-
-Well, If you ain't sleepin around with trashy hoes, which you have to be trash yourself to sleep with in the first place, your ok.

natural babes-
-At my age, in a small town, their all natural yet, and ain't nothin' wrong with a lil breat augmentation as long as the lady is happy and comfortable with her body and appearance.

rap? nah Motown-
-Motown...please, I didn't say I like rap, my least favorite genre, but there are a few songs here and there......

grunge? nah pure rock-
Grunge is technically dead, and in my eyes, died with the late great Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, the greatest grunge band ever to grace the planet, don't tell me you never liked any of Nirvana's songs...if you truly didn't, either you were a huge dork, scared of the new and different, or just plain wrong. I listen to classic rock, and southern rock of your days, and I have the rock of today along with the heavy metal scene to keep me content. And Country still has its time and place with me.

better movies-
-Don't like old movies, I'm a fan of Matrix, Gladiator, Dazed and Confused, Half Baked, Remember the Titans, Saving Private Ryan, the list goes on, its just that movies these days have better plots and technology and throw in great twists, of course we have flops that shouldn't be spoken of also...aka godzilla, twister, volcano, pretty much any natural disaster movie.

bigger backseats-
-Again, Camaro....kinda cramped, Chevelle...plenty-0-room, Bed of truck and basement on summer night...heaven. Why do I need a backseat, I live with my mom who works for the government and is gone 1-3 months at a time, ladies come on home with me.

fist fights, not gun fights-
In the small town of Manchester, Iowa, the fist is still the weapon of choice, guns are for the wannabe white-trash thugs, cuz we dont' have many blacks...maybe 3 right now.

exctasy? nah organic shrooms-
-Well, there are some heavy drugs passed around at the white-trash parties, but we country boys get the occasional guy bringing the acid, still popular, but mostly weed if its gonna be anything more than alcohol and cigs.

beer at 18-
-Who cares, I still get it, buyers know what its like to look for beer so they help us out, I always have enough for the weekend, plus it gives us a little adrenaline rush knowing we aren't supposed to do it and we could get caught any time so be ready.

great looking gals in tight Levi jeans-
The ladies are still looking great my way, hell, the jeans girls wear these days are pretty much bell-bottoms, tight on that a$$ and get a little bigger after the knee, they just call them flares now.

Stadium shows-
-Concerts you mean? Well, the best concerts I have ever been to have all been in tightly packed small venues such as Hairy Mary's in Des Moines, the old Super Toad in Des Moines and other in surrounding area. Large shows in big arena's aren't as good, as for the price of tickets, its still basically the same price, just changed with inflation, so did minimum wage so there goes that argument.

Chiefs win Super Bowl 1/11/70-
-Well, I think being the second winningest team of the 90's was good enough for me, the championship will come with time, and I know it will before my time is up.

aturnis,

While Bob Dole appreciates an occasional spin of Spit It Out or Wait and Bleed (Hey, you've got to love a song with the line "My eyes are red and gold..."), it's a stretch to think that more than 20 people will ever consider Slipknot's stuff "classic." It's not like you find yourself humming their songs while you cook dinner or anything...

And it sounds to Bob Dole like you're admitting that 70's big blocks are better than anything available in the 90's. (And count yourself lucky if your brother has a '72 Malibu convertible with the Z15 package, since there were probably fewer than 100 produced.)

Bob Dole isn't sure what to make of your commentary regarding "breat augmentation." (But knows that if you ignore health implications, natural breats beat silicone breats and silicone breats beat saline breats and it seems that most of them you find in the 90's are saline.)

Bed of a truck? (Oh yeah...you're in Iowa.) Tell you what--Bob Dole will put the back seat of Bob Dole's parent's 1976 Mercury Marquis up against your pickup bed any day (especially if it's raining). Maybe we should put up a "ladies only" poll and find out.

Oh never mind... Anyone who thinks that having a winning record is "good enough" isn't going to pay attention to an old fart anyway. :D

let's see here...

bell bottoms...60's and 70's...

Cars.. what year Malibu?

Miusic...Classic rock? from what decade? And today's country is not country. It's pop. You want country? Merle, and George, and Willie. Any one who dogs motown is clueless.

Sounds to me like you were born two decades late.

Contrary to your information deadly STD's don't only come from trailer trash ho's or whatever you want to call them. Anyone can get them and spread them. Maybe that's the problem, too many kids think that if she's the prom queen she's clean or the high school quarterback, the school geek (they were nerds in my day). Abstinence is the only real way to protect yourself, and ya sound like such a stud I'm sure you buy your condoms by the case and only use them once and NEVER have unprotected sex.

Reached the halfway point of my life today..45

Just taking a minute from the activities that the family has planned for me today to cyber-celebrate my birthday with some of my cyber friends....

And what's really fun is i get the same treatment next week for Father's Day!!!!!!!

:D  :)

Here's to the 60's & 70's (especially my "Class of '74" compadres).....

BTW Aturnis, most of the attire worn by kids your age nowadays originated in the late 60's and early 70's, so there's nothing original about fashion these days...
