I think Huard is fed up with Herm and the offensive coaching staff

BigRedChief's reports have never been wrong before, so I agree that maybe Huard did just up and quit this last Sunday and because of that, is truly in Herm's doghouse. Huard's last throw was that interception, which bounced off Devard Darling. Huard looked disgusted after Darling ****ed that play up.

Of course, the situation - third and long - was created because Herm's wonderful offensive coaching staff dialed up a run up the middle on first down and a pussy middle screen call on 2nd and 7.

Throw in the fact that they were sending Hagans in and out of the game - I'm sure Huard was disgusted with that, too - and it's not hard to see why Huard has had enough.

If you remember, last year Huard was pissed off at the offensive coaching staff, too. I believe it's been publicized that he's not a big fan of Dick Curl. He was much more comfortable with Terry Shea.

Basically last year Huard put up with a terrible offensive coaching staff that had no clue, and got beat the hell up all year long, for basically nothing. Now it's happening again, and he isn't about to put his body on the line for another shit team that has no clue what they're doing on offense if he doesn't have to.

And so he ends up in Herm's doghouse. But can you really blame Huard?

That's my theory anyway. We'll see if Huard gives a shit if he gets back onto the field the rest of the season.

EDIT - Oh, and one other thing. Larry Johnson is the other guy who raised a fuss last year. He's already started this year and I wouldn't be surprised to see it escalate. Will he end up in the doghouse?

There's a whole lotta something to this, I think, Mr. Rain Man. One would naturally assume that a particular player would be drafted by a particular coach because that particular coach saw something in that particular player that he particularly liked. But it doesn't always seem to work out that way. Sometimes, that player, for whatever reason, doesn't thrive in that coach's system.

A certain symbiotic relationship has to occur for a player to achieve his ultimate potential. The system or scheme has to be right for his skills and the coaching staff has to allow that player to maximize his strong points while minimizing his shortcomings. It's certainly not unusual for a player to start playing at a high level only until he's with his second or even third team. Joe Horn comes to mind.

As for Mr. GoChiefs' theory, there well may be something to that, as well. I've often wondered if Herm's affinity for young players and rookies has anything to do with the fact that they're a lot easier to bullsh*t. In our case, Trent Green was having none of it and it sure seemed as though our big Willie made a strange decision when he convinced Shields into coming back only to retire himself not long afterwards. Herm strikes me as the kind of guy who can keep a team together so long as they're buying into his story. I've known a lot of guys like that through the years. Unfortunately, once the story has proven to be baseless crap, it's nearly impossible to rally the troops again. If that's the case with Herm, it's doubly important for guys like LJ and Downfield and Gonzo to keep their cool when things are going poorly because the young guys will be looking to them for guidance.

Gailey hasn't be incompetent in the past. Nothing special, but not incompetent. I'm guessing Herm is effectively offensive coordinator.

Herm isn't calling plays but he's signing off on gameplans and making suggestions all game long. Vermeil would tell Saunders to run the ball from time to time. Herm begins every series with the words, "OK let's try a run here and see if we can get a few yards."

There is no argument. In preseason we tried to run counters, zone blocking, bootlegs, and tried to mitigate our shitty line.

Week 1 against a hell of a defense that was beating the shit out of our O, Herm pulls out the same ****ing plays he fired Solari for.

I'm a big Steelers follower. Watched them since Cowher left to make his NE Chiefs.

A lot of what Chan did is what others copied in Pitt. He'd go 5 wide on first down. He'd run a double WR reverse and then THROW the ball 60 yards down field. His boring "up the center's but" calls were the siren's singing. It's what compelled the defense to suck up so he could go deep. He's all about creating mismatches by playcalling and game situations.

That's not, in any way, what we're doing.

Also, keep in mind that Solari didn't do to bad in his first season given the situation with Trent Green going down and Willie Roaf retiring. Last year the offense totally disintegrated and most of the blame can be placed right on Herms shoulders (along with Carl Peterson).

After the 2006 season Herm stated publicly in the media that we had to change the offense in order to get younger players on the field. ok, fine! But I remember a comment about when Trent came back to the team of how the gameplan for that week was scaled down to fraction of what it was previously. I don't think having the gameplan/playbook scaled down is a bad thing it just shows Solari trying to comply and after the Indy loss in the playoffs Herm says ok now we can make some changes but the problem is HERM WAS AND IS MICRO-MANAGING THE PLAYCALLING and we end up with this crap we have now. Herm Edwards is a bumb of a coach and will always be one.

Very true. I think Marty had a lot to do with Archie Manning not wanting Eli to play in San Diego.
