Sheldon Richardson going to USC

Sheldon Richardson reneges, commits to USC

BY VAHE GREGORIAN Posted: Thursday, November 11, 2010 2:41 pm

Prized Mizzou football recruit Sheldon Richardson said Thursday he has changed his commitment from MU to Southern California.

Richardson, from Gateway Tech, has spent the last two falls at College of the Sequoias in California after failing to qualify academically at Mizzou. He sat out all but two games this season with a wrist injury that he says he now has recovered from and did not require surgery.

Although Richardson attended MU's Oct. 23 win over then-BCS No. 1 Oklahoma and said "it felt like home," he committed to USC last weekend.

The main reason, he said, was his belief that USC and well-respected defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin would best prepare him for a transition to the NFL after just one season.

He said the fact USC won't be eligible for a bowl next year because of NCAA sanctions didn't bother him.

Richardson, considered a 5-star recruit out of high school, said he still plans to take other recruiting visits, most likely to Miami, California and Arizona State.

He was vague when asked whether he had told MU of his decision yet.

"Uh, back and forth. I'm going to call them later," he said. "It's kind of hard to tell them I'm not going there no more. Or I think I'm not going no more."

Asked if that meant there still was wiggle room in his decision-making, he said, "A little wiggle room."

You know what isn't funny?

When Kansas plays football and embarrasses our conference. That isn't smack. The team is an embarrassment to all the good football played in Big 12 country.

You guys are just jealous because Kansas is "on top"

You can only wish you were as relevant as a team that has won 2 conference games in 2 years.

Or of a program that just made bowl appearances in consecutive years a couple of years ago...

You do realize that the bowl tie-ins shuffled this year, right? The Insight Bowl has the 3rd choice now in the Big 12 and is no longer the toilet bowl that it was when it picked ku as the 7th or 8th choice.

Mizzou has averaged 10 wins a season the last 4 years. ku might not win a total of 10 games for the next 4 years.

Why are you even taking the time to troll?

I more of a fan of teams that reach the highest of highs but might have to experience the lowest of lows.

But this thread isn't about KU and my thoughts on them.

It's about a player who everyone hated on the page before but now all the hate has mysteriously vanished.

Hence my post "No way this could end badly."

No need for you to start talking shit, but you did. Expected.

Well no one can accuse KU of having this problem.

It's scary to think about what our defense is capable of next year.

We were #6 in the country in defense this year, and will be adding a 5 star DT in Richardson, a 4 star DE in Ealy (have heard practice reports that he is Aldon Jr), a healthy Aldon, Bonner comes back, etc.

We're returning 8 of 11 starters, including our entire front 7.

Ealy was the recruit I was most geeked to get last year, even moreso than Franklin and Lucas. He had the build and the production in HS, now it seems he has the ability to transition that to the next level.

I dig Franklin a lot. He seems to be more in the Brad Smith mold. I think he has "gamer" written all over him. A guy that will simply find a way to move the chains when his time comes.

Well actually this year Insight is the Big 12 #4 and when Kansas was chosen it was the Big 12 #6...

So your numbers are not correct.

But don't worry, have fun. It's a cool trip.

Ealy is an incredible athlete. Our DE's are going to be ridiculous.

False.

The Insight Bowl is bigger and better this year with the third pick from the Big 12 Conference and the third or fourth pick from the Big Ten Conference, after the BCS selections. These two conference face-off with hard-hitting action and rambunctious fans in attendance to support their teams. Annually held at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, the Insight Bowl will be televised on ESPN.
