Chiefs @Raiders: Game Notes from the Dark Side

* Raiders HC Allen announces this game will be used to "evaluate young talent."

* Raiders commentator George Atkinson announces "This will be an audition game" for backups and rookies.

* Raiders bring cornerback Chimdi Chekwa up from the practice squad to play against Chiefs.

* Raiders announce that OT rookie Tony Bergstrom will play guard vs Kansas City, a position he has never played before.

* Rookie defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi returned to work after missing practice Wednesday, but expects to get "evaluation time" against the Chiefs.

* Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain is back from suspension, but has been relegated to playing running back on the scout team. He will be allowed to play on Special Teams against the Chiefs. When asked about it by the media in the locker room, McClain replied, "I ain't got nothing to say about anything."

* Setback for Seymour: Starting defensive tackle Richard Seymour has missed five straight games with a hamstring injury, and his quest to play Sunday against Kansas City took a hit Thursday during practice. "Well, he had a little bit of a setback today as far as the hamstring is concerned," Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. "We'll evaluate him as we finish out the week, but it kind of grabbed him a little bit, so we'll see."

* Raiders safety Michael Huff will start at cornerback.

* Raiders leading tackler, starting strong safety Tyvon Branch, missed his third straight day of practice with ankle and neck injuries.

* Coach Allen said of QB Terrell Pryor: "The biggest thing is to start getting him into the game a little bit and let him see a little game action. I’m not ready to say that he’d be a starter."

* The Oakland Raiders defense ranks dead last in the NFL in Points Allowed.

* The Oakland Raiders have the draft tiebreaker over the Kansas City Chiefs due to Strength of Schedule

* The Chiefs have won eight of their past nine games at Oakland.

Spread: Chiefs -1

After opening as a pick 'em in most sportsbooks, bettors have backed Quinn and made the Chiefs favorites coming into Sunday's contest.

NFL is squirming on this one, knowing both teams may not put out 100% effort. This game will fuel NFL conspiracy buffs.

This is getting serious. We may be forced to start Cassel and throw on every down in order to pull this loss out.

I guess it's not. Teams who try to throw games usually lose them.

But you didn't. I guess you didn't throw the game.

So how's your talent look, then?

GoChiefs..... I appreciate that you are both generous and kind enough to allow me to eat my crow as a mere in-thread reply instead of in an embarrassingly titled & self deprecating thread of its own. You exhibit far more compassion than I would be want to afford to you. Your relative saintly nature is both hereby demonstrated and duly noted.

Decorum demands that I must also bow to your superior football knowledge... although I was deceived most grievously by past circumstance. The record clearly shows that your opinion is suspect with regard to Chiefly prowess in the pursuit of victory - I had no idea that you would exhibit such astounding acumen in predicting KC suckage. And now I find myself kneeling before you with downcast eyes, admitting that your team does in fact suck far, far worse than my own.

The spoils are that you are free to rejoice in my pain - for with both surprise and horror I witnessed, before my very eyes, the Kansas City Chiefs come into my town and tank a game so blatantly with assured aplomb and calculated expertise. It was unprecedented... precise.... actually a thing of perverse beauty in a twisted kind of way.

How could the Raiders just fall into the web, get caught in the trap, sacrifice the future without even trying to compete? They could have whiffed the tackles, they could have refused to catch the passes, they could have pulled the field goals... and yet they just stood there and played football. At the very least make an attempt at a zero - zero score. But to just intentionally try and win a game certain to land Geno in KC? Why? WHY??

As I try to fathom the inexplicable performance of my team today, I am ruefully reminded of a gif that I used earlier to taunt TomSlash's inadequate IQ. As I looked up at the scoreboard this dark and dreary day, I was struck by the possibility that its message more adequately applies to the coaching staff and players of my beloved Raider team than it does to the cognitive ability of TomSlash.... perhaps, even to me. Perhaps it was actually boomeranging Cleesian prescience when He declared:

Many questions about the Raiders performance remain unanswered... maybe we will never truly know the underlying factors that drove the organization to the depths we witnessed this day. But one fact has been demonstrated with utmost clarity, one shining example of a fan's cognizance of his own team's talent to tank and suck... and you, GoChiefs are that fan. Only you truly understood the degree of teh suckage that is today's Kansas City Chiefs. With abject humility I pronounce that you win about your team losing in Oaktown today. As you so rightly insisted with unwavering determination, your team is horrible without peer.
