Aging sucks...

For those of you who have been very physically active how have you handled the depression (is very slight) when you realize your body can no longer do what you want it to do?

I'm trying to stay in shape to play golf w/my 15 y/o son. I did have rotator cuff surgery 7 mos ago. That set my whole body back big time. But I can still do 10 chinups, curl 25 lb weights, etc. Just always sore, tired.

Anybody over 50 w/any ideas? Any secret supplements to ease the pain?

Just always sore, tired.

Changing your diet can give you more energy. It worked for me. Eat a set diet Sun thru Friday. Saturday eat what you want. More fruits, veggies, salads and nuts.

I'm not even old yet and I have noticed a big difference the past 2 years.

Being asked to move from short stop to 3rd felt like getting kicked in the junk. Still having the arm to get it there is worthless if the first two steps are too slow. Catching yourself thinking about turning a double into a triple is painful when it would have just been a cloud of dust at third a few short years ago. Spending more money on hot bats to go yard when asked because you're not sure you can still get it there. Blah Blah Blah

**** getting old!

Only 38 and I can tell a tremendous slowdown in recovery and amount of 'pain' over the last year.
I have arthritic fingers also - it's a drag.

I remember about a month before I injured myself, I was wondering if I was getting too old to play softball. And not just because I'm slower or whatever, but because it takes more time to recover from little injuries. Bounce back is not what it use to be. I'm sad now that I have to give up the sport, but I've decided to take on old people activities like swimming and yoga. I know those are strenuous activities, but really easy on the joints. ;-)

I can't do it yet, but I hear you.

My brain still craves the feeling of beating the throw to third, body be damned. I am starting to notice how the "old guys" play the game though. It won't be long and I'll be forced to adapt as they have or quit.

Occasional Yoga is awesome for my legs and back. I feel like I could burst into full on homosexual flames while doing it, but my body really reacts well to it.

What's funny about yoga is it started as a male only practice. In fact, women werent to allowed to do it and now it's seen as a feminine practice.

dude. talk to your doc about some steroids. If you're suffering that bad in recovery the steriods should reduce inflammation and help with the physical side of it.

The issue there is the type of steroids they will most likely provide me (prednisone) actually weaken tendons and ligaments which could lead to injuries with all the lifting I do. About the only thing I could do, other than slow down which I refuse to do until my body is completely shot, would be HGH. Unfortunately I live in the US where helpful 'drugs' are priced out of reach for those who need the,.

Probably the most irritating issue is how much more difficult it gets to keep the weight off the older you get. When I was 38 I dropped 20 in a couple months without a problem, in an effort to get my drag race weight down. Now, I have been trying to drop 20 for 6 years now, and it is a losing battle. Walk 3 miles every morning and ride my bicycle to work, not helping. Became a gym rat, and have torn a few muscles, but haven't lost the weight.
I'm a couple of years youngr than you, and I have a problem keeping weight on.

I weigh roughly 5 lbs more now than I did when I got out of boot camp over 30 years ago.

I've managed to get my weight up to about 150, which is where I'd like it to be, but just can't keep it on.
