Reading Nothing But Positives About Our D Line

Either our o line isnt so great or our d line is gonna be nasty. Everyone i spoke to at the camp or anything ive read online says the d line looks completely dominant. Poe is a ****ing 340 lbs bear, Bailey looks HUGE at over 300 lbs and Catapano might be one of the leanest 295 lbs guys in the NFL. I heard all these guys are killing it and I heard maybe the MOST impressive of them all is Mike Devito! Hearing he is leaner and faster and has simply destroyed every drill against the o line. I was looking for pics and found these...any good pics of Devito? I'm excited about this defense and i wont lie......just a bit nervous about this o line for some reason but hopefully they prove otherwise.

The Sutton hate will be warranted if (... probably when) Dontari Poe is out of gas by Week 9.

Failure to get Poe some snaps off is the one legitimate and fair critisism.

Strange that this word somehow made its way in. It sure wasn't there before.

Houston has never been an all pro.

Similar to the Chiefs' 4 all pro defensive players, Ware, Miller, Ward, and Talib are all pros.

I think Ford should be used to get Poe some rest. They can rotate him in and bring Tamba into an interior pass rush spot on third downs.

I think that's the plan on paper, because at least there you have a chance to make up for Poe's ability to collapse the pocket from the middle.

hell ya give Poe a breather, we need to rotate guys in...we have depth and versatility now so why not? With Catapano, Walker and Ford you can mix and match (and disguise) different packages. In particularly with Catapano who is 295 now but still moves like a ****ing linebacker! Look at this video of Cat doing 1 on 1 pass rushing drills this weekend in camp moves CRAZY for a guy weighing 295!

I still think the undoing of our pass defense came with how we defended the crossing pass.

This may be JMO, but you can't rely on the same pass rush every single time. Show it the same, yes. But drop Hali back once or twice a game. Maybe Divito. Or Poe. Possibly any other of the d-linemen. Not often... Just once in a great while when you suspect the crossing pattern. Got to show them something they are not ready for.

When the secondary has to constantly come up to tackle the crossing receiver... that's when they get beat over the top.

Just my $.02

Agreed...but if ur going to drop a lineman back why not drop your fastest one back who was drafted as an OLB? I like the versatility Catapano brings...as long as he has kept his speed (which all reports indicate he has) than that's the lineman u do it with. Got multiple rushers now in Hali, Houston and Ford...put them 3 and Big Cat down as ur sub package and the offense line would have a very hard time. Those 4 rushing would be sick. Try and stop those 4 guys from reaching QB...not happening

I'm just saying mix it up. Maybe Poe... once or twice on the season. Same for the other guys.

Give them something to think about that they were not expecting... even if it winds up being a catch and immediate tackle. Or batted down. Heck, maybe even an interception.

The same area of the field was open far too often for the crossing pattern. A dropping linemen from the opposite side that the QB doesn't have time to account for could do wonders in shutting that play down, but the QB has to think it is there at the snap.

Hope that made sense.

If Catapano is somehow able to learn how to stop the run.......my god....watch the **** out.

He's going to be able to provide some pass rush TJax only could have dreamed of. One of these DL have to take a major step up this season....whether it's Catapano, Devito, or Bailey...someone is going to have to do it. Haven't heard much of this Walker guy....which I don't know if that's a good thing or not. But it's only been 1 wk of camp...def not time to worry. But the DL will have to be outstanding this year because our CB's are going to be dogshit. Yup...D-O-G-S-H-I-T.

Apparently, they are going to do a hard enforcement of the pass interference rules this upcoming season.

I'm really worried about the middle. Our front pass rush should be stout, which means that QB's are going to dump down or OC's are going to draw up quick crossing strikes to negate the front pass rush. Mays has never been a coverage type of guy and we got worked last season as Jordan was the same guy. They are hoping on/relying on Mays or Nico to pick it up, but neither have shown that ability to date. I think we are going to see a lot of nickle/dime coverage early with three safety sets. Sounds like they are running a lot of those in practice already actually with Berry and McMillian as the back guys and Abdullah up in the box.

I hope he's able to handle the beating that's going to entail.

Cat looks like an animal in that video. But I'm buying into the hype. This d line is clearly a very talented, and motivated group. They busted their Asses all off season with bailey gaining 15lbs, cat nearly 30, and devito slimming down. Can't wait to see them in action.

Ive also been reading reports that parker and cooper have just flat out been playing better than smith, and that's why smith is on the second team. Smith is a vet and is a solid starter so I guess ill take that as good news. Been reading reports of them getting burnt though so I'm Still worried lol.

Honestly I think this will end up being the one huge positive of the offseason. We have an excellent rotation of talent up front and if Sutton doesn't use it he needs to be tied down in the Silver-backed Ape cage during mating season...
