CARSON, Calif. -- Former TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin says his arrest two days before the Horned Frogs' thrilling Valero Alamo Bowl win over Oregon "doesn't define the kind of person" he is.

He is looking to prove that and more to NFL scouts at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl this week (6 p.m. ET Saturday, ESPN2).

Boykin was involved in a fight at a bar in San Antonio and allegedly struck a bicycle patrol officer. The incident led coach Gary Patterson to suspend Boykin for the bowl, ending his playing career with the Horned Frogs.

"I was crushed, man," Boykin said. "Letting down my teammates, letting down the city of Fort Worth, the TCU community. I let down family. I let down friends. I was so hurt and devastated for the simple fact that I couldn't be out there with my team. Watching the game hurt even more, but I was so proud of them the way they fought back."

Boykin was watching with his mother at their home in Dallas as TCU, behind Boykin's replacement, Bram Kohlhausen, erased a 31-0 halftime deficit to tie the biggest comeback in bowl history. The Horned Frogs went on to win 47-41 in triple overtime.

"Bram, he's a guy that has been all over the place at different schools," Boykin said. "His dad passed away this past year, and it's been hard for him. For him to do what he did, I'm truly happy for him and just glad they came out with the victory and everything worked out perfectly."

Boykin declined to comment about the night of his arrest but said the conversations he has had with NFL scouts at practices and events leading up to Saturday's game, which features 111 draft-eligible players, have mostly been about football.

"Obviously, they want to know [about the arrest], but at the end of the day, football is what I came here to do," he said. "I came here to prove that I can play this position."

Boykin, who finished tied for ninth in the 2015 Heisman Trophy voting and fourth in 2014, said he was invited to the NFL combine as a quarterback and is "fully committed" to playing the position in the NFL, but he said he would be willing to run through drills at other positions in individual workouts with NFL teams before the draft.

He is one of three quarterbacks on Team National, which will be led by former NFL coach Mike Martz. The other two quarterbacks are Bowling Green's Matt Johnson and Southern Utah's Ammon Olsen.

On Tuesday, TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte said Boykin will participate at the school's pro day, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"I will welcome him back on this campus with open arms," said Del Conte, according to the newspaper. "He made a mistake. But there are so many good things he did for us. And that team will never forget."

Boykin said he was aware of Del Conte's comments.

"I love my TCU community, and I feel like they appreciate me just as much," he said. "Everything I did in the four and a half years I was there, this one incident doesn't define the kind of person that I am. I accepted it. He's a great AD, it's a great community, and I love being around Fort Worth."

After Saturday's game, Boykin will return to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, to prepare for the combine. He is scheduled to make an appearance related to his arrest in Bexar County Court on Feb. 17, according to the Star-Telegram.
