Considering the market... Fitzpatrick should believe he's worth at least what Brock received. Will he get it? That's the question. Teams know what he is at this point in his career, Brock is an unknown. If Denver wasn't going to pay Brock that $, why would they pay the older known commodity the same?

Houston screwed the entire league with that deal. Now everyone else is going to have to overpay for mediocre QB's.

Houston should be penalized.

There is no doubt the Osweiler deal has many scratching their heads. There is merit in evaluating Fitz as an equal if not better than Osweiler with regards to ability, but you can't say the same with regards to compensation. I believe few teams would have been willing to give Osweiler what he received from Houston. Denver and other teams should rightly refuse to cave to the talent comparables with regards to making a financial commitment. Houston screwed themselves with this deal. I don't think O'Brien will be in Houston very long...

He'd be hired immediately thereafter.

The guy has led the Texans to two straight winning seasons and a Division title since being hired in 2014.

And, he's done it without their best running back in Arian Foster, without their #1 overall pick in 2014 with shitty QB's named Fitzpatrick, Hoyer, Mallet, Case Keenum and Tom Savage.

This it would take a 2 win season to get him fired.

I have read positive things about both the culture he builds and the players seem to like his passion. But some of the reasons you cite may be the same reasons which get him in trouble sooner than later. Clowney is looking like a bust pick and O'Brien inherited an already stout defense which has carried this teams fortunes.
They have a nice player in Hopkins that they can build around, but until they figure out the quarterback position, and the run offense, and with O'Brien being an offensive guy, the regime may not have much patience. The division is awfully weak and they need to make hay while they can - but I don't forsee Andrew Luck being as terrible as he was last year. The Jags are also looking promising.

Rick Smith is the GM, not O'Brien.

Rick Smith hired Kubiak and O'Brien and any personnel decisions aren't attached to his resume.

Oh I am well aware of Rick Smith's responsibilities to the club. But you know how these things go: If things go south for the Texans, Rick won't be falling on any swords for O'Brien.

If I'm the owner, I'm choosing to fire Smith if expectations aren't met, not O'Brien.

That dude is going to have success in the league, IMO.

Yeah he was. I know he had a shitty playoff game but I'd be fine with Fitz/Sanchez/Siemien, actually. Offer him the same deal they offered Oz. It maxed out at $45 MIL over three years with incentives.

Of course all this is speculation given we don't know what the Texans fortunes may be next year. There is merit to your train of thought when you consider the "rule" that GM's get two coaching hires. If team success is still waning, then yeah maybe you replace who's on top.

On a sidenote, do you think they get Hackenburg as insurance against Osweiler? We all know of the O'Brien connection. There is a lot I like about Hackenburg, but there are other things that bother me with regards to his accuracy and decision-making. He obviously misses Bill.
