Making the case for Tony Romo...
Right now, the Chiefs have just over $5 million in cap space. For 2017's league year, they are set to have around $5 million. Upon rolling over this year's cap space, they will have around $10 million before ever making a roster move.
My preferred approach to the offseason would be picking up Romo and drafting a QB early. My preference (right now) would be Pat Mahomes from Texas Tech. Here is how the Chiefs could do all of this without blowing things up. 1. Cut Alex Smith, void Nick Foles' contract. First off, Foles' void is a no-brainer. It saves over $10 million. Next, if the Chiefs do decide they want Romo, you move on from Smith. Some say they can't cut him yet, and I don't know why. Sure, it would result in $7.2 million in dead money. But it also saves $9.7 million. That alone is enough to keep Eric Berry, and the cap space total jumps to over $30 million. Hypothetically, with $30 million the Chiefs could keep Berry, bring Romo and a draft class in, and still have room to make a few moves. But lets say they get greedy... 2. Cut Jamaal Charles. This one, I do not want to see. I think we could work out a large pay cut before hand and keep a potential good running back. But, if not, this adds another $7 million. They now sit at $37 million in cap room to do what they want. So basically what I am telling you is that if the guys at OTC know their shit, the Chiefs could replace Alex and Foles with Romo and a draft pick for a smaller price. They also would have the available money to keep Berry, and even Poe if they please. Seems like a no-brainer to me, if they can pull it off. Last edited by pugsnotdrugs19; 01-16-2017 at 06:06 PM.. |
