That's the type of stupid cliche thinking that has teams drafting Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel in the first round. Right now, Alex Smith is a better QB than Romo because Alex is probably going to play 16 games. I'll take 16 games of an average QB over 4 games of a slightly above average QB any day.

Keep Smith and continue to look for his replacement in the draft. Not the first round this year because there is only one QB worth a first round pick and the Chiefs would have to give up way too much to trade up for him.
