How would YOU try to improve the defense?

Amid all the hysteria over our two wins and offensive performances, I'm just wondering what can realistically be done to improve the defense? Now we know Berry will hopefully be returning soon which should be massive, but with the way this offense is looking, just a slight improvement on defense could take us to the promise land yall. So does Veach sit, be patient and hope Berry is enough to improve things? Should he get on the phone and beg Breeland to join the kingdom? Or should he seek to make a trade of some sort?

I think I'd probably go with trying to get Breeland in and with Berry added to the mix I think the unit would be vastly improved.

...Breeland...Berry...Parker...Fuller...

With Nelson In the slot. Surely that would be enough?

I'm with this idea.

If they're going to score anyway, might as well take an all or nothing approach. At least the offense will get more possessions.

This is the approach they need to take when they get into one of these helpless shootouts vs an elite offense.

You can make lemonade from lemons but you can't make a quality defense from a bunch of brokedick, recycled garbage.

Our latest high round defensive draft picks (KPass and Speaks) are playing out of position. They were big defensive linemen in college asked to played OLB in pros. That's weird shit right there. Never mind neither player were all that good in college.

Yes, Bob Sutton sucks. The problem is bigger than Bob Sutton.
Ragland so far this season hasn't even been a 2-down thumper. He tackles like a matador...

Draft better.

We just don't seem to draft defense well. It's almost always some project turd that takes the entire length of their rookie contract to get their collective shit together... and by then these guys are looking for a payday.

I'll gladly meet you halfway at - gimme competent coverage, and also no blatant and repeated pass rush holding allowed

The amount of snaps Terrence Smith is getting in subs says that without Sorenson they don't think O'Daniel is ready and that is really really hurting the defense as Smith is a special teamer only.

You want to send the middle LB's on more blitzes and not leave the middle of the field open at the same time.

It's like we didn't spend all offseason talking about how bad our safeties are. And of course, using Houston or Ford in pass coverage isn't acceptable either.

Perhaps Sutton should just play 14 guys instead of 11? Or may conjure up some flying monkeys to cover the middle of the field?

This team just lacks players and a lot of the issue was even getting the Steelers to 3rd down..but of course that is one of the most dynamic offenses in the league.

This will settle down a bit when the Chiefs get to play some of the worse QB's around. Most teams don't get 2 of the top 10 guys in the game on the road to start the year.

The fact that O'Daniel hasn't sniffed the field is VERY disappointing.

When you cant get pressure with your down 4 you have 2 choices...

A) Blitz
B) give up on the rush and drop everyone in coverage

I'd lay $'s to donuts that Wade Phillips improves this defense immensely with the same people

Sutton has no idea what he wants this defense to be. And it shows. He tries to defend against everything on every play....walks down the middle of the road if you will, afraid to pick a side

It's not good when Shaqueem Griffin is starting already...either way if O'Daniel is good at what we were told he should be playing in the passing subs at the very least.

Outside of firing Sutton I would play all the young guys like Watts, Smith, and Dorian to get some much needed speed on the field. Yeah they will make mistakes but they will probably make some big time plays as well.
