Yeah March is the new Sippio around here. He got swallowed up last night.
Mauga had a nice season last year, but to suggest he is solid in run defense is a tad optimistic. His biggest plays came in short zone coverage last year. I do agree that his veteran savvy keeps him around though. Wilson looked better than March last night.

I can't figure why over all these years the Chiefs just can't find someone to play beside DJ? It should be a position relatively easy to fill. Teams and fans get too enamored with finding a guy who can play all downs - **** it - find a bad ass thumper, and subset/rotate nickel safeties or backers in for sure passing downs and situations.

what's up with the run defense? Why does it look like it sucks so bad.

Do we really need Josh Mauga to stop the run? All these young ILBers on the roster and what they cant adapt to the big boys game and are getting completely owned? I never thought in a million years our run defense depends on a big slow veteran ILBer.

Berry has always been really good in run support. Him being out is a big part of the problem. Camp is over now. Hopefully he signs his tender tomorrow and vets back in there. But I do agree that Mauga is going to have to stay. March and Wilson have not proven that they can take his job yet.

I don't know.
Maybe it's just me, but I am watching this game again right now, and I am just not seeing the effort from the defensive front.

So do you think it's just lack of effort due to it being preseason or what? Because our defensive front is normally bringing tons of effort.

The run defense is a problem. This team is on year 4 in the same system on both sides of the ball. I don't care if only 2nd teamers are out there to start the game. No way should we be getting ran over like we have.

I hope it was just fatigue from camp and long trip out west. If it's not we have real problem.

Did we even get a sack? I don't remember one.

Lot of it was inexperience. One of the Rams big runs was bc March left his gap to go to DJ's side. Misjudged the run and they ran right down his gap free.

After the game DJ admitted it sucked and knows they will have have to be a lot stiffer against the run to win games. He is such a leader and will pull them together I hope.

That may be the case.

I just can't see both Howard and Poe being pushed off the line by single blockers in a regular season game the way they have been in these preseason games.

Here's why our defense was shaky last night.

Murray's 2nd game ever playing safety, 1st against starters. Rams knew that and drew up the pick play with another rookie, DJ White.

This was one of the long runs we gave up last night. March looked lost and gave up his gap. This won't happen with Mauga in the game.

Andrew Scicilano is an idiot.

He had to be told twice last night that a player is not down by contact if he isn't contacted by an opposing player.

It seems Dee Ford isn't keen on leaving his feet to dive after a ball carrier. He had a couple chances in the back field but seemed he prefer chase them down and grab them. He had a couple opportunities to make big time stops. Like rather than go solo he waited for the traffic to impede the runner. Then he would grab on and try to pull them back
