HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...

This is awesome...

Huge, Huge News

Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

Sunday is titled "The Golden Crown" so I am stoked with seeing that played out, and everything is about to his the fan across the board as it is.
It was actually a smart move by HBO to have the new episode air early on HBO Go. A lot of people will be out of town for the holiday, thus will not be watching HBO that night. It's a great opportunity to showcase the new service they just rolled out.

I would if I had access to it. I hate Time Warner cable. I only have cable for access to HBO and AMC. (showtime and fx too, but without hbo and amc, the other two wouldn't inspire me to pay a monthly cable bill.)

I cannot wait for the day when HBO finds someone else to do their billing, like on a Roku channel, or license HBOGo to an independent provider willing to handle billing. Frankly, I can't wait for cable to die. Direct content is the future.

+1, and same issues getting ESPN3 on my XBOX. I hurriedly downloaded HBO GO, opened it, and then realized it was HBO NO GO on TWC, bastards.

Holy ****ing shit, I had no idea Renly and Loras were gay. When Littlefinger made that quip about them during the tourney I was like "WTF??" and then BAM! in your face 100% homo. I've only read the first book, and this was a complete shock to me. And yeah, Loras was miscast almost as bad as Robert.

i'm halfway through the first book, but i think they only hint about them being Gay, HBO just spruced it up for TV purposes. Somethign i didnt care to ever see, but with people sending you ****ing text messages of shit your mind cant never unsee, that was pretty tame.

I thought it was made pretty clear in the books myself. I still haven't watched last week's episode, however.

Really? Get on it. It was the best episode yet.

I'm a little annoyed that the gay scene is all anyone wants to talk about.

One thing: we didn't have any Jon or Daenarys scenes last week did we? I don't remember any at least.

I don't believe so. Jon for sure was absent last week, but Dany was discussed at length at the small council with Robert in attendance. They kind of let slip that Ser Jorah was their mole, though. In the books I believe it was kept under wraps a bit longer to the role he was playing, iirc.

I didn't pick up on any hints about either one of them being gay and I sure as **** had no idea they were "seeing" each other.

true. I wonder if Jorah would be so willing to cooperate if he knew that Ned was Hand. or maybe there's something more nefarious going on.

probably part of the ways to work around a budget. They arent in that episode, they dont get paid. lol

I am kind of reading the book as the show goes, and Dany doesnt have a pov chapter for a while, so i could see why they would do that, same with Jon.

One of the best scenes in the book and done justice in the series, IMO.

Some great foreshadowing with Dany and Viserys in this episode. Dany's ascent has begun...
