The Cutler and Romo contracts are vastly bloated so it's not Smith's/Condon's fault that they're asking for his market value and when you look at the numbers, the only real reason why you could say that Smith isn't as valuable as those two is because.. well.. he's Alex Smith

There's really no reason for Alex to sign this offseason anyway. He knows that if he plays out the last year of his contract, his price is only going to go up.
Well just because the Bears and Cowboys paid full sticker price doesn't mean that we have to. Alex Smith, Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, and etc. are not Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers so they should not get paid like those QBs are getting paid.

yep.. that's horseshit. I don't believe that he is seeking the money many are talking about. But if he really is? nah... **** him. He may even be worth that money.. but to lessen the team talent around him just to fatten his already big wallet? Sounds nothing like the Alex that his fans have respected over the years...

After the bye week, Alex Smith played about as well as Jay Cutler ever has...probably better. It's even debatable if Alex played as well as Romo ever has during that span.

If he can continue to perform at that level, I'll be the first to advocate for him to be paid in that upper tier...but he needs to show that ability over the course of a full season and make the playoffs while facing a tough schedule to earn it.

I honestly think the vast majority of the posters here underestimate the overall ability level of this team.

I think we can make the playoffs and have a chance at winning the division if Alex plays at that level, we get some production from guys we drafted last year that got redshirted (even medical redshirts) and guys like Gaines and Ford give the defense a boost.

People forget how good this team was before it lost Houston and Hali to injury...we were on a historic pace.

Good post, and I do agree with much of it.. but there is also truth to people commenting on the easy schedule.. mainly due to some backup QBs... maybe. ... but then again, we are talking about a KC scheme in the beginning of a year 1 scheme... so there is that to consider also.

Bullshit. He averaged 232 yards per game.

Cutler averaged 282 yards a game for a FULL SEASON under Shanny.

Comparing him to Romo is a complete, complete, complete joke.

It's also a fact that the 9ers over the last 3 seasons have been one of the best 3 teams in the league.

It's also a fact that Cutler and Romo are overpaid.

I agree with Boss.
Smith played his best football over the course of the last 6 games last season.

Let him play this schedule, and should he continue to play at that level, then we can talk.

I'd be all for starting the season w/ Aaron Murray or Chase Daniel next season as opposed to literally paying out the ass for (another 30 yr old QB) Alex Smith, when we have others to sign and gaping holes all over the place.

BossChief made a false statement. During that stretch of games Alex had TWO under 155 yards passing. Romoesque!
