I've only heard 2 games with Edmonds. He sounded pretty good. Maybe the bar for us is really low but he was the best I've heard on the Cardinals broadcasts in a while.

Yeah that was a lucky bounce but Molina did throw a strike to Carp who didn't even need to move his glove.

Some bad base running for your guys. We played a pretty good game. Much better than we have been playing lately anyway.

That Reyes one hitter.

That ball was stroked, but Pham or any average center fielder either catches it or gets a glove on it. In time, he might be able to figure out those reads, and it is one of the harder ones as an outfielder, but CF in the major leagues is not the place to try out, at least not if you fashion yourself as a contender.

Why is Pham in left? Makes no sense.

Uh....it absolutely was.

Seriously, have you just never watched Lackey pitch? Moss was diving a bit and Lackey didn't care for it. He absolutely looked to brush him back and it ended up hitting Moss.

It's baseball - that calls for them to wear one as well.

Maddon made a good point but it was strictly rationalizing.

He said that if Coghlan is at 2b, Moss isn't holding the 1b bag and the grounder that sneaked through for a base-hit is at least knocked down and probably fielded cleanly for the out.

You're right, it was still really REALLY bad baseball by Coghlan, but it may actually not have a made a difference afterall.

And if I'm a hitter right now, I simply don't swing against Rosenthal. He's not capable of throwing 3 strikes before he throws 4 balls. The only way he's going to get you out is if you help him. Russell did it by swinging at ball 4, Almora did it (though really, it was the right play just miserable luck) and Heyward is just a garbage hitter.

Rosenthal had no business locking that game down. He had 2 spots last night - out of the zone and right down the chute. It took a miracle to keep the Cubs off the board that inning.

Edmonds is outstanding.

You listen to him and then you listen to Ankiel and you realize that just as there are talented players, there are talented broadcasters.

Edmonds could be one of the better color guys out there, IMO. Ankiel, OTOH, is cringeworthy. You really want to like the guy but he's just not good at it.

No it wasnt. Pitching inside does not mean they whine for an hour over it.

When I get a chance to watch a Cardinals game & Edmonds is doing the color...I enjoy listening to him. I always enjoyed McCarver too.

Never heard Ankiel.

He threw inside and a Cardinal got hit.

Did he mean to hit him? Eh, maybe, maybe not. He damn sure meant to back him up, though. That's a clear purpose pitch and in the process, one of their guys got hit.

Garcia has to answer that. Their guy throws a purpose pitch and your middle of the order bat gets hit, one of their middle of the order bats gets to wear one - them's the breaks. And the broadcast team wasn't frothing over it at all; they were simply saying that Garcia should answer - and he did.

And for what it's worth, that was a textbook response from Garcia. The 1-1 curve to get Bryant settled back into the AB to make sure he couldn't dodge it (and give Garcia a little cover) was a cagey, old-school move from a guy who's long been maligned for being soft.

It was great old-school baseball and if you're still wound up over it, perhaps you're watching the wrong game. Lackey did what he had to do - came inside on a guy that was diving out and hitting him hard. Garcia did what he had to do - responded when his guy got hit.

That's baseball as it's been played for 100+ years.

Ankiel is to broadcasting what he was to starting pitching, inconsistent and excruciating for fans.

im okay with the old school approach too. It helps keep the game safe. You pitch inside you had better not miss because one of your team mates is going to take a 95 mph fastball in the ribs.

Players also understand that if you are hanging over the plate, the pitcher is coming inside.

As long as they don't throw around the head or at a players knees, no one misses any time and they are just sore for a day or two.
