not related to stealing but one year when I was like 12 or so, I had savecd up my money for months etc, and bought a butt-load of fireworks for the 4th. Well, leading up to the 4th my friends and I were lighting off bottle rockets etc. My dad said to stop etc. Next day, I did it again. He told me to stop again.
I did it again, and he took my entire huge stash of fireworks; never saw them again lol. He also did something similar to my nintendo. I was neglecting my homework etc, and he told me I need to get in gear or he'd take it. I didn't get in 'gear', and I came home from school and it was missing. Never to be seen again either lol

We were so poor, the only thing my folks could have done to make my toy where I couldn't play with it was to glue my pecker to my leg.

I kind of wish I had stolen when I was a kid now that I think about it.
My dad would have beaten my ass....and then I would have split enough wood and scooped enough manure that the transformation would have probably been like Conan the Barbarian pushing the wheel. Probably be wearing chain mail over my chaps button up shirt. Hell, my dad might have built one of these just so we'd have to push it. |

That's all it took for me. Even though it was 25 years ago, I remember it vividly. One of the most humiliating experiences of my life. I never even considered it an option after that, and I'm grateful my father made me do it.

I haven't stolen anything since then. If kids aren't held accountable for their actions and learn that lesson when they are young, they aren't going to learn that lesson when they are adults and they can really get in trouble. |

As a Parent of teenagers (one pre Teen at 12 and another at 15), I have found that I have a pretty good tolerance. I tolerate their Music, although I think it's awful. I tolerate the fact that my kids are attached to their phones, but so goes the World. I tolerate attitudes that come with the teen years - I remember my own issues all too well. I tolerate the hair styles and clothing options - honestly, that shit has never mattered to me
What I don't tolerate from my kids? Lying, Cheating, Stealing & Bad Manners Lying is awful. One small lie begets another, and so on. It is the precursor to a life that leads down wide paths to no where. IMO, lying is addictive and leads to other awful habits down the road. Cheating is the easy way out with many kids. They cheat on tests, cheat themselves out of hard work, and cheat themselves out of doing things the right way. I get on my kids a lot about cheating themselves from doing things the right way all the time. You think it's okay to do things half assed, and you will continue doing those things half-assed the rest of your life - Family, Work, Morals, etc. Stealing - never had a problem with this from my kids, but stealing is wider than just taking someone's XBox game. It's stealing other people's idea's, taking credit for shit you did't do, etc, etc. I hope I don't have to deal with this with my kids. I might beat them to a bloody pulp if I ever catch them cheating Last but not least, Manners. From the time my kids were old enough to sit up in their High chairs, we were teaching them good manners. I never really learned these things as a kid, but somehow I was smart enough to watch my Parents and learn just enough to get by. Having good manners as a kid will get you a long way in life - meeting friends, getting that first job, relationships, and in everyday life. My kids aren't perfect, but we are working on it.

Sell it. He needs that to be the punishment for him stealing. I would also "take" something he likes that belongs to him and let him know that this is what it feels like to be stolen from. Eventually give it back of course.

I stole a little fridge magnet from the ace hardware at ranchmart on 95th once when I was like 10 with my mom. The bitch found out and drove me all the way back and made me hand it back and apologize infront of a full line of customers. lol. It was very demoralizing but I learned my lesson. I still steal food from my friends fridges from now and then.
Sell the xbox and make him return the game to his friends family in person. He needs to learn right now that that kinda sh*t aint acceptable |

When I was 6 or 7 years old, I stole a little Gobot toy from K-Mart. When we left K-Mart, we went to TG&Y across town. In between the two, I started to feel super guilty about what I'd done. I was so scared of punishment from my parents, that I ended up leaving the Gobot at the TG&Y store. So I effectively reduced K-Mart's Gobot inventory by 1, and increased TG&Y's Gobot inventory by one. I always wondered if that mystery ever showed up on some silly inventory report...
