First Cruise

Looks like I won't be going to Baltimore. Something came up. Instead, I am going on my first cruise in September!

Tips? Already hearing about how to get liquor on board...lol.

If you want to just walk around during the excursions, a good place to look for restaurants and such would be Tripadvisor. You will find that when you walk off the boat, you will see a shitload of diamond stores, trinket stores and overpriced restaurants. The ship will most likely pimp a restaurant or two, and I would avoid those since every idiot on the ship that did no research will end up going there. You can also likely find ratings on the different excursions that the ship offers.

Elation. I've heard it's one of their smaller ships, but I'm okay with that.

Smaller than some, but you're still talking about a ship nearly 3 football fields in length with over 2,000 passengers and 900 crew members. It ain't exactly a bass boat.

On top of it, pay too much money.....

P.S. The cruise ship industry hasn't exactly been getting good press lately with all the mishaps
Perfect description of a cruise. What a waste of time and $. So many better things to do.

Not trying to shit on the thread, but there are a lot of inaccuracies here, first of all **** a cruise, go all-inclusive, such as a sandals, only stay at a less commercial location, NOT names Sandals.

Additionally the 'Pay' restaurant on a cruise ARE very very pricey, but also, it was the best part of the cruises I've been on.

I went on the Carnival Sensation which is the same class as the Elation.

It's "smaller", but not small.

I've done both, I prefer cruising.

Agree w/ you on the upcharge restaurants, they are usually very good. I don't think they are that expensive though.

I know cruises aren't everyone's cup of tea, so I'm just ignoring the naysayers. It's something I've never done before, I'm going to places I've never been, and I'll be spending a week with my second family. The last part alone is worth the money I'm spending (which isn't all that much for the cruise itself).

By addressing them, you are not ignoring them.

Not really - considering where you are - but for some would be.

We ate at the one on Carnival - the restaurant was called Davids. It was really good, it was around $160 IIRC - in that neighborhood, anyway.

But we ate and drank really well. Steaks and liquors.

just a preference, a lot of people LOVE to cruise, it's just 'again' personal preference.
