Jonathan Martin leaves Dolphins after 'breakdown'

An unusual situation is unfolding in Miami, where Dolphins right tackle Jonathan Martin has left the team after suffering an "emotional breakdown" this week.

NFL Media's Jeff Darlington reported Wednesday that Martin is currently seeking help with his family after an incident at the team's cafeteria, according to team sources.

Martin is listed on the team's injury report with an illness, and is doubtful to play Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that Martin was the victim of a prank at the cafeteria, becoming enraged enough to "smash his food tray on the ground."

The second-year pro has not been with the team since that time. Darlington reports that Martin immediately sought treatment at a local hospital. He has since left the hospital and is now spending time with his family, according to team sources.

Martin opened the season as the Dolphins' replacement for Jake Long at left tackle. He was moved to right tackle when the team acquired Bryant McKinnie via trade last week. Tyson Clabo is expected to start in Martin's place on Thursday.

Isn't it just way too competitive for a soft taupe elevator music kind of atmosphere? In a room where you're secretly hoping the guy above you will twist a knee or come down with a case of syphillis? Yep, the consensus worst cheap shot artist and teammate fighting asshole in the business is just a super swell guy, we here at the dolphins want all of our players to emulate him.

Apparently, they are all up to their eyeballs in taking part in this bullying scandal - The Dolphins’ hierarchy and the players who are on record trying to place the blame onto the victim - Aided and abetted by the Miami Herald.

I have heard that only 10-20 percent of what is known has been made public so far.

Its disgusting, plain and simple.

I've come around to the idea that Martin may have emotional problems and maybe didn't identify himself as some alpha male type who can take any abuse that's heaped on him in the name of being a tough football player... maybe he ISNT cut out for the high pressure NFL.

But none of that excuses miamis actions, they've compounded their mistakes tenfold with the way they're handling things, they just have a shit team culture down there, and placing Incognito in charge of ANYTHING proves it.

It'd be interesting to hear John Dorseys take on Philbin, did he know this guy was so ****ing stupid and tone deaf in Green Bay?

If that is the case he can retire right now. I am interested in hearing more about the physical attacks. If as a group they were carrying out things like that this really is as messed up as it gets. I am sure the payout for Jonathan will be welll worth the price of admission if that is the case.

Philbin is a phenomenal coach. Like many coordinators, he was WAY out of his league when he went beyond X's and O's and had to start coaching men.
