The only MMO I have ever played is WoW and I don't remember the crafting experience being remotely fun or addictive. It was always fun finding a rich node of Thorium (back when it still mattered) so that was kind of cool, but it was never really an engaging process for me.

One time, we had a server-first pattern drop and no one was a leatherworker. I volunteered to grind leatherworking so we could make belts or boots for the guild. Heh. Good times. I miss hardcore raiding. |

We should be getting our server assignment any day now for The Right Fifty Three. As soon as I hear something, I'll post it here.

I worked up a looong post on Crew Skills for my guild, might as well repost it here. Maybe one of you guys will find it useful:
(Note: this information is subject to change. I'll update as needed after launch.) Crew Skills are the Old Republic's crafting system, designed in a way that allows you to continue playing the game while your companions do the legwork. There are three types: Crafting Skills are used to create items, Gathering Skills are, shockingly, used to gather resources, and Mission Skills allow you to send companions away in search of rare resources, although it comes at your own expense (in other words, it costs credits). You're allowed to have three skills at any given time, although only only one of them can be a crafting skill. You're able to train them at any point you like, by traveling to your fleet and visiting the various Crew Skill Trainers. It should also be noted that the first time you speak to these trainers, you'll unlock codex entries worth in the neighborhood of 450 xp each, which can be valuable to an early-level character, whether you're just off the transport at level 1, or a more experienced level 10 or 11 character that's finished the starter planet and traveled aboard the Esseles. Crew Skill Trainers are also available on Coruscant and at various other major cities on other worlds. In addition to basic Crew Skill training, Crafting Skill Trainers provide schematics which can be purchased as your skill advances. Crafting Skills Crafting Skills allow you to create items including weapons, armor, mods and consumables. Each of your companions can queue up to five items to craft at one time. You are limited to a single Crafting Skill on each Character. Each Crafting Skill provides profession-exclusive bind-on-pickup items. Crafting schematics can be gained as loot, through the Investigation and Slicing (Cybertech schematics only) Mission Skills, and improved schematics are gained through Reverse Engineering. Armormech • Creates medium and heavy armor for non- Force users. • Armormech-exclusive items include Bind on Pickup epic armor. • Uses the Scavenging (Scavenged Metals and Compounds) Gathering skill and the Underworld Trading (Underworld Metals) Mission skill. • Schematics can be found here Armstech • Creates blasters, blaster modifications, and melee weapons like vibroblades and electrostaves. • Uses the Scavenging (Scavenged Metals and Compounds) Gathering skill and the Investigation (Researched Compounds) Mission skill. • Schematics can be found here Artifice • Creates lightsabers, lightsaber crystals and modifications, enhancements for weapons and armor, generators and focii. • Artifice-exclusive items include Bind on Pickup relics (items that can be equipped) • Uses the Archeology (Power Crystals, Color Crystals and Artifact Fragments) Gathering skill and the Treasure Hunting (Gemstones) Mission skill. • Schematics can be found here Biochem • Creates medpacs, stimulants and implants. • Biochem-exclusive items include Bind on Pickup medpacs, stims and implants of superior quality, including some that are not consumed upon use • Uses the Bioanalysis (Biochemical Samples and Compounds) Gathering skill and the Diplomacy (Medical Supplies) Mission skill. • Schematics can be found here Cybertech • Creates droid armor, earpieces, grenades, armoring, mods, miscellaneous gadgets, vehicles and ship upgrades. • Uses the Scavenging (Scavenged Metals and Compounds) Gathering skill and the Underworld Trading (Underworld Metals) Mission skill. • Schematics can be found here Synthweave • Creates light, medium and heavy armor for Force users. • Synthweave-exclusive items include Bind on Pickup epic armor. • Uses the Archaeology (Power Crystals and Artifact Fragments) Gathering skill and the Underworld Trading (Luxury Fabrics and Underworld Metals) Mission skill. • Schematics can be found here Gathering Skills You can gather resources in a couple of different ways, including right-clicking on resource nodes as you travel the game world, or by sending idle companions on Gathering missions, at the expense of credits. Gathering skills may also aid your groups in flashpoints and operations, as, if you have the required proficiency, you can sometimes use a Gathering skill to access hidden areas, or to bypass entire parts of the instance altogether. Archaeology • Used in Artifice and Synthweaving Bioanalysis • Used in Biochem Scavenging • Used in Armormech, Armstech and Cybertech Slicing • Can be used to acquire lockboxes containing items or credits • May result in Augments which can be slotted into exceptionally crafted items • May result in Cybertech Schematics (gadgets, vehicles and space upgrades) • May result in Prototype (blue) and Artifact (purple) level Mission Discovery items for all Crafting Skills Mission Skills Mission skills allow you to send your crew on missions in search of rare resources, at a credit cost. Diplomacy • Missions provide dark side or light side influence • Used in Biochem Investigation • Used in Armstech • May result in Schematics for all Crafting Skills Treasure Hunting • Used in Artifice • Can be used to acquire lockboxes containing items or credits • Can be used to acquire Gifts to raise companion Affection rating Underworld Trading • Used in Armortech, Cybertech and Synthweaving • Can be used to acquire Gifts to raise companion Affection rating Reverse Engineering Reverse Engineering (RE) is the process of deconstructing an item into a variable amount of base resources. When you Reverse Engineer Premium (green) quality items, you have a chance to discover a new schematic for a Prototype (blue) version of the item, which can in turn be RE'd into an Artifact (Purple) quality item schematic. In most professions, there are multiple possible versions of these schematics on each tier. For example, a Premium Armstech schematic may RE into a Prototype weapon of Overkill, which boosts the weapon in one way, or a Prototype weapon of Critical, which boosts it in another. With the Biochem Crafting skill, Artifact level schematics that are acquired through Reverse Engineering often result in items that are not consumed upon use. |

That's some really good info. In my first beta weekend, I had just barely touched on crafting and crewskills. It was a lot to take in, and I didn't feel like I had the time to sit and figure it out.
Thanks for sharing, keg. |

Awesome! I hadn't heard that they had moved the pre-launch start date up to the 13th. Then hopefully I'll be playing by the 15th!

The funniest thing is, it starts at 6 am on the 13th. I wouldn't get up for work at 6 am. But I'll be up for this.
(At least I assume I will, I entered my preorder code on July 21st...) |

Mine bugged out during the night (of course that never happened in beta, go figure...). So I'm still at 9 GB to go in main assets 1.
I know I could have kept the Thanksgiving client, but I figured it couldn't hurt to load a fresh copy. |

I don't believe this is a CE item, I think there are (or rather will be) other vendors on the VIP level. There's a link to another video connected to this one that shows a vendor on the VIP level with companion customization items and so on, and that guy's not the CE vendor. In any case, if you've ever wondered what a speeder that costs 1.5 million credits would look like, well, here you go...
