Back bumping isn't exactly comfortable.......I'm sure the guys that have numerous injuries and surgeries to being wrestlers would love to be thought of as nothing more than oiled up gymnists....

How about Kurt Angle do you think he's just some oiled up guy with no talent?

Remember when Ali got into in the ring with a wrestler? That was low, pretty low.

If wrestling is fake (which it is), what makes you think the injuries and surgeries aren't faked to "legitimize" the "action"?

I'm aware of which ones are fake and which ones are real......

Rey Mysterio wrestled on a torn ACL for 6 months.....Triple H ripped out his quad muscle....I'm sure anyone can be a wrestler and those injuries aren't anything.

The injuries are usually real. When they fake an injury in a match/storyline, it's usually due to the fact that the guy needs to go under the knife for something and they are writing an injury into the story to get him offscreen when he has the surgery and rehabilitates. There have been numerous guys get neck fusion surgery because of all the spine-compressing moves they do. Most wrestlers work hurt most of their careers because wrestling may be "fake", but the hell they put their bodies through is most definitely real.

I have always suspected that, kind of like soccer and hockey. 0 interest here in all of those.

Having watched and XFL game is as close as I have ever come to watching a Pro Wrestling match.

WWE's revenue in fiscal 2006 (from May 2005 to April 2006) was approximately $400 million (US), with a net profit of approximately $47 million. As of August 2006, the company's market capitalization is over $1 billion (US). Its stock is traded on the NYSE as WWE

That should tell you how many people are watching and spending money on wrestling.

In reality...how is a wrestling match any different than a piece of literature, or a movie? They are all texts, and they all tell stories.

The biggest difference is the fan base.

FWIW, this might be a good time to delineate the difference btw 'marks' and 'smarts' for the uninformed.

It's a guilty pleasure, but it's nothing to be embarrassed about.

Mecca,

If you have time and the inclination, I suggest you check out "Sex, Lies, and Headlocks". It's a bit of an uneven read, but a decent history of the business up until Vince bought out Turner.
