We have been conditioned in the US to demonize women's bodies. Period. Go anywhere else in the world (not just Africa dumba**) and this is accepted as normal. Only here, do we call this unusual.

I'm sure you'd rather a woman go into the nearest disgusting public bathroom to FEED her baby.

Now, caveat, subtlety is nice for breast feeding moms to have. It's quite easy to drape a simple cloth cover over the baby while it nurses.

Frankly, I'd rather my baby have breast milk than formula that has all kinds of chemicals and preservatives in it (including aluminum).

Would you rather a baby scream and cry from hunger? Babies cannot control when they need to eat, nor can they understand that they have to wait. When a baby is hungry he or she needs to eat NOW.

So a baby's need to eat is less important than a grown man's need to not see a boob? It seems like the more mature adult could maybe put aside their feelings to accomodate a baby.

I think we need to distinguish what we are all talking about.

Babies, say less than 18 months, I have no issue with a mother breast feeding in front of me - nor doing it in public. Doesn't bother me.

Toddlers, kids that can walk & talk & ask for breast, that's a bit extreme to me to do that in public. And it's not the exposed breast itself that makes it an uncomfortable situation, it's the 3-4 year old still breast feeding.

Who are you to decide that a 3-4 year old is too old to breastfeed? Why should your comfort level with the situation have any bearing on the decisions made by a mother about feeding their child? Seems like it's up to the mom to make those decisions, not anyone else.

I agree. It is fully up to the mother when is the appropriate time to stop breast feeding. But, I also think taking into account the place you are at & those around you is important. Then again, I've never been a "**** everyone else, I'm doing it because I want to do it" type of a person.

If women want their 3+ year old breast feeding in public, fine. Just don't expect anyone around you to not have a WTF look on their face or excuse themselves from the room.

I'm embarrassed for them.

To me, a 4 yr old on a bottle or breast just screams laziness.

They dont wanna hear the kid scream when the tit or bottle is taken away, so they just keep giving it to them.
