Geno Smith Escorted off airplane by police for verbal altercation

Apparently he was upset with their seating policy. Can't you see Brady, Manning or Rodgers doing this?

Geno Smith Allegedly Escorted Off Plane By LAX Cops [UPDATE]
Geno Smith Allegedly Escorted Off Plane By LAX Cops [UPDATE]
SEXPAND
Jets quarterback Geno Smith was apparently escorted off a Virgin America flight at LAX today by police after what a witness called a "verbal altercation."

The photo you see above was sent to us by a reader who witnessed the incident and says the shot came "moments before" Smith was escorted out of the airport by cops. Our tipster wasn't the only person who saw it:

@JimmyTraina I don't have video, but I'm at LAX and just saw a Geno Smith fiasco yelling at Virgin America workers. Escorted by cops LOL

— Mark Rue (@markyOso) January 17, 2014
We're working on getting more details, but it looks like Geno's weekend isn't off to a great start.

Update (7:11 p.m.): Our tipster fills in some details:

We were waiting for our flight at LAX to Vegas and were put on standby on Virgin American just like Geno. We were told to get seat assignment at 2:40. Apparently Geno was not on board with that. My friend walked over to discuss seat assignment and Geno was saying to airline ticket agents, "**** that, this is bullshit." "Why the **** do I have to wait until 2:40." He would not let it go. He continued to curse and be loud for about 5 minutes. Police were called. They talked for a few minutes and then 3 officers escorted him out of the terminal.

Maybe you should want a legitimate defense that show up against legitimate offenses.

The "reasoning" brought up by critics during the 2012 season usually had nothing to do with football.

There were some people (and several of his supporters like me and DJ's Left Nut) that brought up legit concerns about timing with his receivers and quicker decision making. A lot of people thought his footwork had to get settled down in order to get that rhythm and precision in his throws. That sort of thing.

You also had a lot of chuckleheads that just plain didn't like the dude from Day One. I even remember them refusing to give Geno Smith any credit whatsoever after his mammoth day against Marshall. If you asked what evidence they had to question his character and leadership, they said bullshit like, "He slapped a piece of tarp on the sideline! He has a vacant expression on his face after that interception! He's not sitting with his teammates while they're losing!" That's only when I and many others called people morons. And Black Bob. Definitely Black Bob.

I really don't care what he does or how he performs anymore. I stopped caring so much after the Alex Smith trade, and when it was confirmed that we picked Eric Fisher, I stopped giving a shit about Geno completely. The shit-chucking apes who had the exact same baseless leadership and character criticisms of Cam Newton are probably going to be correct about Geno's career in the NFL, but that doesn't mean they had brilliant football foresight to see this coming. For football fans (and absolutely GMs and coaches) you win some and you lose some when it comes to player predictions. But that doesn't mean one's dislike of the dude that formed your opinion is a valid way to go about predicting the amount of success a player will have in the pros.

After this incident, I gotta think that Geno's got some emotional issues that he seems unable to channel properly, and no doubt that can affect his preparation and play during games.

There are some people who disliked Geno from the start. I wanted him at 1.1. I grew to dislike him because of how much his supporters overhyped him. And how every ****ing thread swerved into a Geno spoogefest.

Geno Smith is a hell of a lot more talented than many QBs who went in the first round over the years. 32 teams passed on him. If you think that's purely because of footwork and technique, then that's just naive. EJ Manuel had much bigger issues. Lots of red flags came out about the guy. The childish way he acted when he wasn't drafted. Reports that he acted like he didn't care during interviews. Scouts that questioned his leadership. And almost every time a new flag come up, it was surrounded by apologies.

And if you think Geno will have emotional issues because of this vs. this being the result of the emotional issues he had to begin with... then you're apologizing for him.

I remember hearing reports of him being glued to his cell phone during team visits. Of course, there was also the hissy fit he threw when he didn't get drafted. Now this shit..Sounds like the dude is pretty immature.

Ah well. He's 22 and has probably been the man his entire life. Doesn't make it OK but I'm not surprised.

What the ****? I never said he didn't have those issues. My point is that people started saying that shit about him before those scouting reports came out. They acted like they knew that stuff about him during the 2012 season when there was no way they could have any evidence to support that beyond being a player or coach in the Mountaineer locker room. The Alex Smith trade had already happened before Geno's interviews and before the draft, and I was feeling pretty dejected as a Chiefs fan. I still hoped we'd pull the trigger on Geno at #1, but I stopped giving a shit about him. My biggest prayer at that point was that the Chiefs would at least spare themselves at least SOME shred of dignity and not pick Luke Joeckel.

And again, the story isn't written on the kid just yet. There are numerous examples of players (even QBs) who meet the right coach or the right team down the line and make the positive changes necessary, both emotionally and physically.

Right now it's not looking good, though.

Actually if I recall correctly the Alex Smith trade was finalized during the last day of the combine. I know many disagree with me on this... but I don't think that was a complete coincidence.

Meh, who doesn't get pissed off these days with airlines, airports and the TSA Gestapo? I remember when flying was fun with first class customer service. But then again, people didn't wear pajamas and flip flops to fly either.

Your shower shoes have fungus on 'em. You'll never make it to the Bigs with fungus on your shower shoes. Think classy, you'll be classy. If you win 20 in the Show, you can let the fungus grow back on your shower shoes and the press will think you're colorful. Until you win 20 in the Show however, it means you're a slob.

I'd argue Geno isn't a million $ talent. He's talented, but not wildly so.
