having Smith on his $7.5 million contract this yr, and the franchise tag in 2015 would still be less than paying him $14/yr of the next 2yrs. That gives the chiefs 2yrs to find and develop a qb. In the event Smith plays like a top qb than I doubt there would be many who would oppose paying him like a top qb after the 2015 season.

Heck, if he plays like a top qb in 2014 (against this schedule), I doubt there would be many who oppose paying him like a top qb.
Agreed. This is what Danny Parkins on 610 keeps calling for also.

It's very ridiculous imo.

But, but, but they scored 44 points...

So ****ing what. If they had scored 47 they would have won.

Hell that defense won us a ton of games early on the season. It was time for the offense to carry the team on its back.

If anything, I think it could be argued they didn't go conservative enough.
Conservative play calls in the passing game are still conservative play calling.

I would venture to guess that the YPA were a full yard less in the second half, and it was clear the passes attempted were the plays that were called, for the most part, and not check downs.

The offense did carry the team. It just didn't help that the defense couldn't stop a baby from crawling into the end zone if they wanted to in the second half of that game.

Again how many points did the offense score in the second half?

Hint: it can't be classified as "carrying a team"

Two long first half plays are going to skew that ypa number on their own, one to Bowe and one to Avery, and the one to Avery in particular was an uncharacteristic play for this team. Alex Smith isn't exactly mr. stretch-the-field. We're conservative in the passing game all the time.

To answer your question, it was much worse than than you think. First half ypa was 9.4, second half was 7.0.

Anyway, my point is that I don't think they changed much after halftime. The Colts adjusted, everything they were doing stopped working, and the Chiefs never figured out an answer in return.

He basically had us in position for a game winning fg attempt. Then came the intentional grounding call. I hate that call, but what are you going to do?

Succop would have probably missed anyway, the way things were going.

Maybe our wires are crossed here but you are saying "he", I've never said anyone. Blame is laid, imo, on the offense.

Sorry, the offense was in position for the game winning fg until the intentional grounding.

Could happen but I'm not seeing it. They'll work out a deal and draft position players this year and then maybe draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round next year if one is available.
Ive got some bad ****ing news. This team wins 7 games tops next year w/ or w/o Alex. If a guy falls to 23 we better pull the ****ing trigger.

I agree. But 2nd and 7 on their 39 is on the brink of fg range indoors. A made fg there, and nobody give a crap about anything else that happened that day.

And who caused the team to be penalized for intentional grounding?

That would be the offense, no?

If a unit is doing something well, then does something bad that negates that positive moment, does it really deserve praise for the momentarily positive achievement?

Losing Charles, Avery and Davis to injury hurt the offenses ability to not only stretch the field, but to effectively run the ball, too.

Pair that with losing Flowers on a defense that already had its 2 best players (Hali and Houston) hobbled by injuries and it was just a matter of time till it happened.

Dunta Robinson and Kendrick Lewis were frequently targeted once Flowers went down and when they were targeted, Hilton scored. Over and over.
