What do we know about the Titans.

No point in putting this 5-11 season off any longer.

Let's talk about our first opponent. Who I happen to know nothing about.

First up, their QB position is manned by Jake Locker. Locker actually looked okay on his time on the field.

Their RB corps is alright. They've got Shonn Green, who nobody gives a shit about. But they've also got rookie Bishop Sankey, and from the sounds of it, they love him. They also have Leon Washington, who I've always been a big fan of.

It's well known at this point that the Chiefs have the league's worst WR corps. However, the Titans come close: Kendall Wright is your only surefire #2 caliber WR. Nate Washington, Dexter McCluster, and Justin Hunter are all #3 caliber. Delanie Walker is their only tight end worth anything.

Their line is pretty damn good, however. Roos is a Top Ten left tackle (that Hali nonetheless took to school recently), Levitre and Warmack are quality guards, Schwenke is a good center and Oher is fairly consistent at RT. Add into the fact that Locker is difficult to chase down, and it's going to be tough sledding for the passrushers.

On defense, they're alright. They've got a lot of guys who are decent starters, and guys that would be elite backups.

We know as well as anybody that Ropati Pitoitua is not a world beater, but Jurrell Casey on the other side is pretty good. Sammie Lee Hill at the nose is a bear to move off the ball.

Derrick Morgan and Kamerion Wimbley are their rushbackers, with Akeem Ayers rotating in. That's a solid if unspectacular group of passrushers -- it will be a good warmup for Eric Fisher before he gets skull****ed by DeMarcus Ware. Zach Brown and Wesley Woodyard are their ILBs.

It's well known that the Chiefs have the worst secondary in the NFL with Berry missing time, but the Titans come close. Coty Sensabaugh and Jason McCourty are their starters at the position -- yeaahhhhh...

Their safeties are Michael Griffin and Bernard Pollard. Tennessee is where disappointing Chiefs go to die, apparently.

They have Rob Bironas, who outside of Roos is like the only other elite talent on this team.

Hell, offensively they match up well against us too. They have a strong WR core with Hunter, Washington, and Wright leading the group. Their OL is well above average.

It's going to be as tough a win as any if Locker plays anywhere close to what he's capable of.
Are you accounting for the fact they just changed to the 3-4 with Horton and whiz? And I understand your respect for Jurrel Casey, but they don't have a d linemen who is better than Poe.

They don't have any where near the pass rushers the Chiefs do, and their best ilb is Zack Brown (tar heel), but he is no where near Dj.

I'm just curious where you see this massive difference.

There defensive line is not better than the chiefs. Casey is a monster but he doesn't man the interior anymore. He was moved to the end. Sammie Lee Hill and rookie daquan jones will cover the middle of the line. Outside of Casey and maybe Derrick Morgan they lack reliable play makers on D.

As others have said though they are changing to hortons 3-4 and that does take time to adjust.

Mccourty is a great corner but Coty sucks big time on the outside. I think they start blidi wreh-wilson opposite of jmac and have coty man slot wr, which he did well at last year.

That defense may come around as the year goes on but they have struggled mightily so far. Zero push up the middle and they seem to have forgotten how to tackle.

They have enough pieces to run Horton's defense effectively. Casey will play the same role that Dockett did for the Cards, they've done fine without dominant edge rushers with creating pressure up front due to the strength of their interior rushers. While they may not be dominant in their front 7, they are more than adequate enough to deal with and take advantage of our pathetic OL, especially as the 1st game of the season when our coaching staff still seems to be unsure about who should be starting. Hell, Casey alone is enough to cause problems up front for us; he is a better pass rusher than Poe is right now.

On top of our bottom 3 OL making their front 7 look like All-Pros, they have a superior secondary that can cover any of our WRs quite easily, especially now that Bowe isn't going to be out there. Donnie Avery will be our best and most dependable perimeter weapon, think about that for a minute.

Smith is going to have to bring some of his playoff magic and Charles is going to have to do his best Barry Sanders impression for us to win if it becomes a high scoring game given our lack of ability to cover any of their WRs.

I remember sucking AIDS in the preseason just like this in 2011 and 2012.

People said, "Well, at least we play Buffalo. That should get our confidence back."

I see the same thing happening with the Titans here. And I don't think it's going to be pretty at all.

38-17 Titans. It's going to be that bad.

Aww how adorable. Thinks preseason means anything but owner $$ and player injury minefield.

SNR is right. The third game of 2012 preseason was a sobering precursor to disaster.

The wins and losses don't mean anything, but the quality of play is nevertheless a fairly good indicator of your team's strengths and weaknesses.

Our starting offense didn't score a single TD all preseason. Our starting offensive line was horrendous. Our starting secondary wasn't exactly sharp, either.

Do these problems magically disappear? Sometimes, but it usually takes a few games.

Chiefs fans are pointing to the Titans like it's an easy W. They did the same with Buffalo. Just because those teams aren't very good doesn't mean we're going to win against them. Based on what we've seen, WE'RE not a very good team either.

Sorry. You're right. Nobody said "easy win."

I shouldn't ever paraphrase. Ever.

paraphrase != mischaracterize.

People wonder how things get polarized here. Maybe it's when people turn a sliver of compromise into an extreme.

We have a chance, or we should win this particular game if we are prepared and motivated, turn into 'check out the malook who thinks the season is a cake walk.'
