Alex Smith Was Clutch

Like him or not, he turned the game around when Washington was kicking our ass early and he was key to the game-winning drive late.

I get that you're butthurt about being wrong that the Chiefs would finally take a QB in the first rd, but seriously quit getting more butthurt about Mahomes sitting. This is not going to affect the plan with Mahomes. Alex himself knows that this is likely his final season.

The list of mobile QB's who are elite at 35 or older is a very small list. Worst case scenario is Alex plays through his contract.

Yeah, if they like Mahomes as much as we hear, he isn't sitting.

This is the perfect scenario for the Chiefs. Smith plays like a badass, they trade him for a first rounder.

I'm just enjoying watching this team ball out every week.

I don't know how Smith is going to finish this season, but it's a fun ride. I sure as hell hope something has really clicked for him after four years with a brilliant offensive coach.

Alex is known to take very team friendly contracts. The money would not be the issue. #15 is the issue. If he's ready in Andy's eyes Alex is gone. Same thing Andy did with McNabb, and Kolb. He doesnt bullshit.

Team friendly contract only goes so far. Alex isn't playing and risking injury for less than $10 million a year. He'd likely command $18 million a year or more on the open market by my estimation, so I doubt he would go much below that. Let's put him at around $16 million a year. That still significantly hampers our ability to do anything else to keep current players or add new talent.

But you are correct, if Mahomes is ready (as ready as you can be without seeing regular season action), Smith is gone. I see no reason to believe Mahomes won't have taken a huge leap by next year, so I simply don't see any way Smith is kept.

Listen Smith will probably play out his contract here. This year and next. Everyone wants Mahomes because he chucks it deep but look at our QB right now. Smith is playing like Aaron Rodgers. And yes Smith is elite right now. You can’t call him a game manager anymore. His new name is Alex “**** it and chuck it” Smith

I'm trying to be civil here, but if you really think Smith is in the realm of Aaron Rodgers you're reeruned. And as always, after 5 years here Smith's regular season stats will likely factor very little into their decision next year. It doesn't take a genius to see that Smith's failure to guide this team deep into the postseason factored into their decision to finally take a 1st round QB. If Smith fizzles out again this postseason he's not going to get another year. 1-3 playoff record is pretty poor, 1-4 is abysmal. Even winning one game and losing in the AFC Championship game shouldn't be enough. It has to be super bowl or bust for Smith this year.

I dont know how team friendly he can get ...Hes already supposed to get what 19 million?

I think it really boils down to performance through January and beyond.

Results or adios.

If dude wins afccg he stays probably....for one more season.

If not I dont see the point in spending 15+ million on him when we can get weapons for mahomes...

I said right now he’s playing like Aaron Rodgers. Hell Smith is the league MVP through the first quarter of the season.

need the Oline to get healthy fast or those numbers could shrink. right now he is playing with controlled panic. that could change for the worse.
