HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)
EDIT: Changed the original header to mark this as the thread where spoilers are allowed (but not necessarily recommended...). Created a new, spoiler-free thread for Ice and Fire virgins...
This is awesome... Huge, Huge News Nov. 11th, 2008 at 10:29 PM HBO has given the production order. They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES. It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass. It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series. More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already. Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn. Last edited by keg in kc; 04-25-2011 at 03:58 PM.. |

Yes. He's a halfwit. I'm not sure what the point was either, and I don't remember if that's how it happened in the books. There is some character relationship development happening between the three of them that will come into play much further into the series... but that's about the only reason I can think that Hodor just randomly appeared there (other than just to work him into another scene and imprint him a little more on the audience since he's obviously not made much of an impression yet as evidenced by you not remembering him or recognizing him as a halfwit).

I was sober and wondered the same thing: why do we need to see this dude's disfigured schlong?. Only thing that came to mind was you had to have read the book.

He was bathing in a nearby spring in the book while Bran sat by the heart tree, since Hodor had to carry Bran around everywhere.

The folks that say Martin can lose his pacing on occasion would be well served to remember passages such as those. Sometimes he really can get tedious.

Great episode this week! I didn't care for the change to how Drogo was injured, though, and the injury seemed much less serious than in the book - I believe they described it as a fairly deep gash across the entirety of his chest. I'm not sure why they had Drogo kill his own bloodrider - it didn't really seem to be a necessary change, unless they are just trying to speed the upcoming events without having to go into as much detail as the books. I don't really buy that a khal or his bloodrider would turn on each other so easily - and technically, if the bloodrider had killed Drogo, he'd then have to die himself, due to the bloodrider pact. That scene just didn't mesh.
That being said, the fight was pretty awesome... |
