While I agree, I think the fact that Lucas cast unknowns intentionally made those characters more special than they would have otherwise been.

I wouldn't call Ford an unknown, though.

The guy was working as a carpenter before Lucas decided he needed to be in Star Wars.

Awesome costumes BTW. Based on early McQuarrie concept.

Has anyone seen The Paperboy? Even if you hated it, Efron is no Disney boy anymore. I have not seen any of those high school movies, but I have seen the Paperboy, and he had to be the touchstone in a film where big stars were competing for scenery to chew, and he more than held his own. He and Macy Gray are the best part of the movie.
Oh and Kurt Russell is the greatest bad actor of all time. No one bad acts like Kurt Russell. I did love his Disney movies as a kid especially The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. Those do not hold up to time. I would not recommend watching them again out of nostalgia. |

American Graffiti was a HUGE hit. Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Paul LeMat, McKenzie Phillips and Charlie Martin Smith were overnight stars, not to mention, Harrison Ford. That film cost $725,000 dollars to make and earned more than $115 MILLION at the box office. The gross adjustment would be more than $500 million today. If Lucas truly didn't want any known actors, why did he audition the likes of Kurt Russell, Harrison Ford and Cindy Williams? That directly flies in the face of your ridiculous contention. And finally, you weren't even alive when Star Wars was released. You have no idea what made that movie so successful. You're just talking out of your ass, as usual. |
